A great blog with some realistic optimism about the changes happening. I'm with you on the timeline, I think it will be another 5-10 years before we see more people becoming aware of this new ideal that they are actually going to be more in control of their own data.
It's a colossal mindset shift that will gradually happen but it will.

Yes there is a dual avenue taking place that needs to be recognized. Development of all that is needed will not happen overnight, hence another 5 years or so. Also, people do not change their habits quickly. I think it will be another few years after that for the masses to fully grasp what is taking place.
And even then, it won't be everyone but all the merrier for us open minded folk hey!
