Thrift shopping in the charity stores.

in LeoFinancelast year

Times are tough and making money strech farther is always good practise.

Not that we have gotten to the stage yet of needing to to buy second hand but i think that it's good practise to do it where you can for the savings, for the environment and for the future.

We've had an expensive few months and it's taken a toll on the bank accounts.

I have a good stack of crypto but this isn't the time to be selling any of it. That is for the future when prices recover and I can get full value for it.

All of the money goes to charities and those in need while helping to move on the stock that can build up in these stores.

Also I just love browsing these shops for all of the random bits that you can find hidden among the junk.

So many good reasons to shop smarter and be thrifty.

I had a bit of spare time today and needed a helmet for hurling which can be quite pricey to buy new. Since I have never played the game before and might not even get involved there was no point in spending big money to buy a new one that might never get used. Then I remembered seeing a few in one of the local charity shops and went to see if any of them would work for me.

While I was there i did a browse and found a few other good bits that i could put to use and save myself a few dollars. Some that I was looking out for and some that i knew would come in handy.

Hurling Helmet - 8
United jersey - 10
Canterbury Jersey - 8
Jars - 6
Books - 5
Bag - 4

Total of €41.

I needed the helmet to join the local team. Needed the bag for my bits in the new job. Needed the jars for storage in the house.
Wanted the United Jersey even if it's a few years old. Never worn and i wear a lot of those type of clothes. Same goes for the brand new canterbury shirt. It looks like one person cleared out a lot of stuff together as there was a full rail of never worn sporty clothes in the same size. All top quality and exactly what I like. I'm always picking up books for my collection and the full collection of Narnia tales will add nicely to it as well as a never before seen Harry Potter spin off for me to browse. All in all a decent haul for very little money.

If you were to put that into brand new products.

Hurling Helmet - 70
Bag - 35
Jars - 20

Jersey new - 70
Canterbury Jersey - 40
Books - 40

Total of €275 if I was to buy them all new or a saving of 85% by finding them in the charity shop.

It doesn't always work out like this but between charity shops and resale websites there are a lot of ways to save money or even to make some money with buying and selling.

Watch the pennies and they will turn into pounds. It also saves me form cashing out any crypto which should pay off exponentially in a few years time since i can keep increasing my holdings every week.

I love Charity shops for Clothes especially. I picked up a €200 coat for 15 squids thinking it would be a nice work jacket now it is my sunday's best.
Good haul.

There are a few very good ones in the nearest town and we have found lots of great stuff there.

I love browsing through them and finding gems like your jecket. So much good stuff inside in them.
