The coal usage has been declining in the United States for the past several years. This is for the push to move away from fossil fuels in general and specially from the ones that pollute the most. However, due to the general increase in energy prices, specially natural gas, this year coal usage has actually increased.

The United States has abundant coal, however, the efforts to "decarbonize" the energy sources are hurting the industry. It is expected this increase in coal demand to be transitory, unless something changes with the push for "green energy". In my opinion any source of energy is good, the effort should be to avoid placing known pollutants in the atmosphere.

The United States is expected to reduce its use of coal again and play a significant role in the environment. Your opinion is correct. It is better to use any energy. However, in that case care must be taken to ensure that the environment is not polluted while using that energy source.

Agree with your opinion that all energy is good as long as it doesn't damage the earth and sky. That is, there is a balance between the needs and conditions of nature, in this case pollution, the ozone layer, and the atmosphere for the earth.
