Microsoft in talks to buy Discord for over $10 billion

Instant messaging and digital distribution platform Discord has been talking with several potential buyers lately. Epic Games and Amazon were candidates to buy the successful company before, but it now seems Microsoft has the best papers.
The rumour goes that the tech company offers more than $10 billion dollar for taking over Discord.

Discord is a platform with 140 million monthly users and mage $130 million in revenue last year.
Despite that the platform isn't profitable.
This might have to do with the fact that the use of Discord is free. The only money they make now is from their monthly Nitro subscriptions.

Discord and Hive
Discord is a tool that is widely used by a lot of communities on Hive. Leofinance also has it's own Discord channel.
I'm curious what will happen if Microsoft really takes over Discord. It will make the power of one of the biggest tech companies bigger again. We've seen the same with Skype that was bought by Microsoft before, Facebook and Whatsapp and many more examples.
It's not always an improvement. And will we have to pay for using Discord in the future and what will they do with the data?
Maybe it's time to look at alternatives for Discord before the takeover takes place.
What do you think?

Meh. Microsoft & the likes of the Gates empires are trying to buy over the world. Pretty sure it isn't about monetary gain, I'm pretty sure it's more about data than anything else.

Hopefully that does not happen as I like Discord too much. And under Microsoft everything might go to Dust or try to use data for its own purpose.

That's what usually happens...

alternatives for Discord before the takeover

Discord was already having issues with taking down channels but if Microsoft is in charge, I can only seeing things worst.

You're right I didn't even mention censorship....

I don't have high hopes given the history Microsoft has had with IM applications.

Oh wow! Here we go. Amazing that Microsoft would purchase discord. I wonder what adding it to its portfolio would do?

Fee for service?

Fees, use of data, advertisements, censorship....
Can't name any positive things.

Thats true, look out. We're in trouble

It doesnt matter.

People will find another centralized place to hang out in all day long and bullshit.

I get the idea that you don't like Discord, haha!
I use it sometimes to ask questions. Since you can see who is online you can get answers very quickly.
I'm also not into the chit chat :D

But there are a lot of people using it. It's indeed the centralized part that triggered me. A decentralized alternative would be great. On PeakD I saw a BeeChat, but I never used it, so I don't know if this could be a good alternative.

I think the censorship implications would be the biggest concern. We have already seen it start to happen with the Wallstreet bets thing. Now if you have Microsoft in the mix worried about their global rep and their bottom line it could get really messy.
