Is The Metaverse Still A Thing
This year and part of last the promise of metaverses was a big one. It was all the hype as companies and smaller applications launched their own metaverses. Sprawling cities, fantasy worlds, a way to connect and have fun with others while on lockdown and more.
We saw big names like snoop dog get involved and buy their own plots of land and more.
What's happened to all of that?
The Hype and Under Delivering
A lot of hype came out of the metaverse and a lot of promises. However when we look at what was actully launched and what you could actully do in these metaverses we can clearly see they greatly under delivered on what they promised.
Shoddy graphics the VR world is only starting to really get started. For the most part these VR worlds look nothing like the real world and their blocky type feel isn't appealing to many. These already left for a rather small niche of people that would be interested. Slap on a VR headset and even worse reduction. However some of these metaverses are playable on PC and mobile which I feel is the right move to combine them all in order to access the most amount of people.
NFTs Play2Earn Are Still Hot
Right now the market for everything is in a restructure and refocus period. Whenever there is a large rally and a lot of dumb projects there is a bear market that leads into everyone refocusing on the quality projects and of course those pissed off thinking they joined the next greatest thing and it really was junk.
However the play2earn space is actully one of the areas that is heating up. These new games are no longer browser based but instead a game you download on your phone or computer to play and incorporates tokennomics and NFTs into them. These new phase of gaming most likely wont hit us till 2023 and with the bear market much of the funding often slows things down.
For the most part however the metaverse side of NFT gaming is gone there's little to no demand for it. Instead the demand is more in your other style games like Frotnite, Apex etc. It's why I feel if Psyber actully does launch something like this it could do very well.
I also feel like games such as card building NFTs is still a very viable popular option. You have many games like hearthstone, gods unchained etc that do very well. I also feel like Splinterlands is rather one of a kind and nothing else like it in terms of the shear amount of quality and options that comes from it.
Will The Metaverse Ever Take Hold
I honestly don't feel it will for a very long time. The times of people wanting to strap themselves into some alternate reality are far fetched I feel and if you have to start doing that well then the worlds gonna have to be in one ugly place. However if you start looking at the metaverse in terms of gaming and building a profile in the gaming space that interconnects games and interacts with people on that level I feel you have something that could be very promising there. Perhaps with the bear market we will see a shift to this.
