RE: Kaze no Tani no Nausicaa (Nausicaa of The Valley of the Wind)[my reaction/review]

Cool that you've seen and liked that French animated movie.

I've been reading a lot more now (as Werner Herzog insists that we do) and watching less. Also kinda pissed at some of the cinephiles there. My username probably says a lot.

I read a lot too and always have - love the work of Herzog by the way, especially the films with Klaus Kinski ( ever watched the documentary about their love / hate relationship? ) - but I think that advice is meant for filmmakers. Do you ( plan to ) make movies too? I used to and back then watching movies felt different.

By the way, your letterboxd description made me laugh. I don't mind being called a cinephile ( as it literally means you love movies ) but don't like to be called a film snob, as once happened here on Discord. I'm not ashamed of sharing my knowledge about movies, I studied film after all but what you watch or like is up to you.

And yeah, we've got quite some favorites in common, I just tend to watch way less mainstream / blockbuster movies these days and if I do, I prefer the classics.

See you around!

Haha, yes, "My Best Fiend". Werner Herzog has been an inspirational figure for me. But I love him for his eccentricities. Yep, I do want to make films and wrote scripts. Been holding off for some personal predicament.

I don't mind being called a cinephile in a normal sense but the more I see "cinephiles" the more I despise them. For example, hating on Kubrick because he is famous and made films in Hollywood is not cool in my book. I think I'm quite snobbish regarding my film choices as well and I really don't mind being called that. 😎🤣

Wrote a post on why I named my hive nick this way just after I joined - https://peakd.com/gems/@notacinephile/the-dilemma-behind-my-username

I haven't had the chance to study films in academically (majored in physics) but picked up a few things here and there by myself. :)

Nice to know that you read too! 😀

I prefer the classics.

and I already admire you for that. 👍

Indeed, love that documentary! And both guys are extremely inspiring.

Filmmaking aint easy but, now I think of it, I was struggling as much in life in the years I was making or trying to make movies as I did in my filmmaking hahaha!

I seriously considered to write a book called: "How to NOT Make a Movie" as I managed to start a feature film project thrice - in between 2013 and 2017 - and never finished any of them but I'm not sure if I would feel good about that.

I read the post about your user name and understand you a little better now. Might leave a comment on that another day.

P.S. Kubrick is awesome, I love many of his films! The Shining is one of my all time favorites ( and I don't care how Stephen King feels about it hahaha ).

Greetings from another film snob ;<)

P.S. Do you use MUBI to stream movies? I recommend it.
