"The In Between": A Connection to the Afterlife??? (movie review/reaction)

in Movies & TV Shows2 years ago

Do you believe in the afterlife? If so, do you also believe that there are ways to connect with people there?

I am very curious about this concept, so when I read the synopsis of this particular movie I'm going to post about now, I immediately clicked "play".

The movie I'm talking about is entitled, "The In Between".

The movie started with an accident scene. Tessa and her boyfriend Skylar got into a traffic accident which resulted to the latter's demise.

Upon waking up after her surgery, it was difficult for Tessa to accept that the guy he loves is no longer around. She was confused and was still trying to accept everything in her own way. However, at some point, her late boyfriend started reconnecting with her.

The story is basically about her finding a way to reconnect with her dead boyfriend who at that time was still in the "in between".

As you can see in the trailer above, there were a lot of scenes with Tessa and her boyfriend together. They're mostly flashbacks... that's how the movie was styled.

As Tessa was on her quest to find a means to reconnect with Skylar, some events from the passed were shown like the first time the met, their memories together and various events which led to the accident bringing them to the present.

I personally like how they transitioned the events of the past and connect it with the current time. Well, I like time-jumping narrative-style of movies in general. Though how they do the "time-jumping" really matters. :)

Anyway, I want to introduce the two main characters in this film because they both have interesting qualities and back stories, though I won't really delve into the latter.

Tessa loves photography and has a pretty unique outlook on life and love. She is the kind of person who builds a wall between her and others even those who are close to her. I believe she fears being abandoned and alone, so she tries not to get close to anyone... at least emotionally. She's scarred and just being careful, so I can somehow understand her.

She's also someone who thinks rather uniquely when in comes to love and happy endings... and at some point, I agree with her views. I prefer love stories with a tragic end to those with a happily ever after but is actually open-ended. Who knows what really happens next to that "happily ever after", right?

Skylar was the opposite of Tessa in more ways than one. He's the kind of person who's very positive and would believe that no matter how severe the situation is, it'll still work out.

Be it in life and love, he's the hopeless romantic type that believes in the idea of everything to work out fine. Sorry, Skylar... it doesn't.

Interestingly, their differences complemented each other pretty well. However, the same differences also brought about conflict in views and decision making between them. It was a double-edged sword; they brought closer together and at the same time friction in their relationship.

I like how the characters in this movie appeared to be. They're realistic and relatable.

The love story part was to my liking because I'm into tragic love story and knowing that the guy died at the beginning is tragic enough for me to like it. Yes, I'm weird.. I know!

As for the concept of "in between", I also enjoyed it. I like how Skylar tried to make Tessa know that he's still there and is waiting for her to reconnect with him. His ways can be funny and lowkey creepy at the same time.

In addition, I love Tessa's best friend, Shannon. She's like a refreshing ball of laughter in the middle of her bestie's dark and tragic life. Everyone needs a Shannon in their life.

All in all, the movie was okay. I don't dislike it... but I also don't really like it. There were some boring parts where I didn't really enjoyed, so I used those time by looking at my phone. haha

Maybe it was because I was expecting too much? I like the concept of the movie, but it was actually more focused on the "romance" side rather than the concept of the title. haha I wanted to know more about the "in between", so I thought this movie could have been better.

Oh well, it wasn't that bad... but I wouldn't really go out of my way to watch it again. ^^ Perhaps if you're into romance, you could enjoy this film more than I do. :)

That's it for this film. The decision to watch belongs to you. ;P

A mí me gustó el trail. Pensé que era de miedo (porque no me gusta ese género) pero, me puso a pensar en esa vida después de la vida. Seguro la anoto entre mis pendientes por ver.

Gracias por compartirla.

You're welcome... I hope you can enjoy the movie... <3

Oh, this is the actress from the miniseries The Act. She's a very talented young actress, just because of her I'm going to see this movie.
