"Ouija (2014)" Was Kind of a Typical Teen Horror Film [WARNING: May contain minor spoilers...]

What can I say? It's like a weaker version of "Final Destination"...

A couple days back, I watched Ouija (2014) and Ouija: Origin of Evil. In this post, I'd like to talk about my thoughts on the first "Ouija" movie released in 2014. The second one released in 2016 was actually a prequel and I'd be talking about it next time. For now, let's focus on the first movie.

The movie is about a young lady named Laine who recently lost her best friend, Debbie. As she was trying to reminisce her memories with her late best friend inside Debbie's room, Laine stumbled upon an antique Ouija board. She used to play this with Debbie when they were younger, so she decided to use the board game to say her goodbye.

One of the rules in playing the game is not to play alone, so she did it with some of her friends including Debbie's boyfriend and Laine's sister. While doing so, they were able to make a connection with a spirit that's called DZ who they initially thought was Debbie.

After such encounter, strange things started happening with the group. They somehow found out that they're going to meet the path which Debbie has gone through. To stop the series of eerie things from happening, they'd have to determine who the real identity of DZ is in order for them to close the portal they've opened.

I've seen some similar movies in the past... I mean when it comes to using Ouija boards or trying to make a connection with dead people and ending up connecting with evil stuff. Since there were movies with similar plot and setting, I believe it would be tough to make the movie unique compared to others. And this movie is among the so-so ones.

The effects were okay as well as the jump scare, but nothing very special. And the predictability was quite apparent. Anyway, I was able to finish the movie, so I must say it wasn't that bad. haha

If I'm to say something positive that would be the cause of what's happening and how they were able to somehow re-tell the story. For instance, why are the victim's mouths stitched? Well, it wasn't really explained in detail, but I was able to appreciate it more after watching the prequel (which I'd be sharing to you next time).

When I said the movie is low key a weaker version of Final Destination, I mean it. You'd probably say the same when you get to watch both movies. There were signs... but as I've said, this movie was quite more obvious. haha Anyway, let me share the trailer of the movie below.

If you haven't watched it yet, and you're bored and feel like watching a bunch of teens trying to struggle in quite a funny way, then you can watch this. The second movie was so much better, but if you watch this and see the connection between the two movies, you'd be able to somehow appreciate both of them.

Debbie didn't have a lot of screen time, but I think she's pretty! haha I love their friendship, though....

I'll end this post here for now, but please look forward to reading the continuation when I write something about the prequel soon! <3 See you!

Sort:

Creo haber visto esta película, pero no estoy segura si esta película me gusto, la vi cuando salió, pero tendría que volverla a ver para recordar, aunque estoy segura que no me gusto mucho, porque sino la recordaría, así como la de El Conjuro y Anabell

There wasn't much of an impact, so maybe that's why. haha I've watched Conjuring, but not Anabelle. I'm not really a big fan of exorcism types of horror. ^^ The second movie Ouija: Origin of Evil is much better than this one. Perhaps I'll write about it tomorrow. :) Have a great day and thanks for dropping by! :)

I haven't seen this one yet. I will look for it to see it.

Just don't get your hopes up too much... but the second one is great! haha
