As you might know I recently returned from holidays in the South of Spain with my wife and three sons. We had a brilliant time spending 11 nights in Benahavís West of Malaga and 3 nights in Nerja an 1 hour 30 minute drive East along the coast from Benahavís.
Nerja is a beautiful little sea side town that we know well. Although it is touristy, it is not ruined by tourism like some of the high rise sea side resorts that you see dotted along the Spanish shore. There are no high rise buildings in Nerja and it retains it's village feel and old world charm.
Fondness for Frigilliana
Nestled in the mountains a short 5/10 minutes drive away from the centre of Nerja sits the picturesque village of Frigilliana.
We know Frigilliana well also, in fact we have been there six times in our lives, not only because it is stunningly beautiful, but also because we got married there, so we did an initial visit to check it out, a subsequent visit for my wife's hair trials, nail trials, food and wine tastings, then there was the wedding itself. One of my groomsmen loved the place so much that he got married there a few years later and we were there for that and we have been back for two of our wedding anniversaries including this year, so, yes, we know our way around and feel really at home there.
Ok then, allow me to take you for a virtual stroll around it's beautiful little streets.
Charming Little Shops
There are not all that many shops, but the ones that are really tasteful and have reallt nice hand crafted souvenirs and locally made produce. It's a proper little village without a supermarket or chain store within an asses roar.
The last photo was a real winner with the boys who came away with some sword fighting souvenirs which are a nice little reminder of our lovely holiday.
Colourful buildings with character
The residents clearly take pride in their picturesque little village and you can see by how well kept the village is that this is the case. Lovely flowers and plants are peppered around and the paintworkbon windows and doors is beautifully done. I love little villages like this.
Tasteful plants
For me plants, shrubs, flowers and general greenery give life to a place and allow it to breath both metaphorically and factually. Frigilliana seems to get that and has all sorts of greenery dotted around the village which demands daily care in Spain's sweltering heat.
Lovely little church
This is the church we got married in. Although it was painted white when we got married and it looked much nicer.
These photos are all my own captured on my Samsung Smartphone
Thanks as always for stopping by everyone.
Peace Out
