Trip to Amsterdam
The year was 2018 and having visited Amsterdam multiple times with work, but never having any time to do touristy things, but seeing first hand that it was a vibrant and fun city, I decided to buy a wedding anniversary present for my wife of flight tickets to Amsterdam, a hotel for two nights and various activities.
My wife's favourite flowers are tulips, so I knew that a visit to Holland, the home of tulips would land really really well with her, and guess what it did! It went down really well and she enjoyed every bit of it and still talks about it to this day.
Anne Frank Museum
One thing that we knew that we wanted to do in Amsterdam was to visit the world famous Anne Frank museum. Everybody has heard of the book and many have read it.
We made the Rookie mistake of thinking that you can just rock up and buy tickets while we were there, but we were sadly mistaken, and many people book their tickets months in advance. There are large queues every day, as some people can still get in last minute if there are enough no shows, but we did not fancy queueing for hours with a fair chance that we would not even get in!
We are very much a glass half full couple though, so we figured that it would give us an excuse to return some day! Well that was 2018, and we still have not been back, well I have been back once for a friend's stag, but we have not been back together and I did not go to Anne Frank's house on the stag!
So this is as close as we got to Ann Frank's house - see photos below.
Ice Bar
We had not planned to go to the ice bar, but as soon as we saw the sign for it, we both glanced at each other and didn't need to say a word, we were going. It turned out to be great fun and we met some cool people there and had a great couple of hours.
-9.4 degrees celsius!!!!! Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr Yes, it was proper cold, but they give you a big warm jacket to wear and even the glass is made from ice, the bar is made from ice, it's well worth a visit.
We went into the non ice bar afterwards for a few tasty Mojitos!!! Now that's my kind of cocktail!!! For me it is the best of the best when it comes to cocktails!!
Join me for Part II
Join me for part II when we take a trip out to the world famous Keukenhof. Keukenhof or "the Garden of Europe" has to be seen to be believed. It is an amazing tapestry of colour in Lisse, on the outskirts of Amsterdam in the Netherlands. It expands to 79 acres and has more than 7 million flower bulbs!!! That's right folks seven million. Here are a few sneak peak photos ahead of part II
Thanks a million for stopping by
Peace out.
