Although the phrase "hierarchy of losers" seems severe, it captures how society typically views failure. Not all losses are treated equally; some are laughed at, others pitied, some strangely admired. While a failed student is labeled lazy, a failed athlete is remembered for the effort. While a bankrupt businessman is dismissed as lazy, a jobless worker may still be regarded as courageous.
Our bias is revealed in this ladder. We evaluate value by the narrative we relate to struggle, not by the reality of it. Losing is universal really, a thread connecting every life. Made of pride and bias, the ratings are illusions.
Perhaps the true respect comes from rejecting to be imprisoned on these ladders rather from trying to prevent loss. Perseverance, not failure, defines you.
