It's the accusation we hurl at individuals who won't budge, won't offer a second chance, enforce the law even when compassion appears more human. The landlord evicting the struggling family. The employer who dismisses someone just before the holidays. The judge giving out the most severe sentence. We whisper, "Has no heart," as though goodness were always the correct response and compassion the only measure of character.
Still, some of the time has no heart just implies has boundaries I don't agree. The individual who at last stops borrowing money they'll never see again. The pal who won't help your self-destruction any longer. The parent who declines when yes would be simpler. Like sharks, they roam the world all hunger and instinct, grabbing what they want without the bother of remorse.
