Most people didn't notice the silent bicycle at the side of the road, but for those bearing quiet burdens it was impossible to disregard. Though it seemed normal, even innocuous, something about it seemed purposeful, like it was waiting for someone specific.
Drawn by a feeling he couldn't explain, a man once stood in front of it. He mounted and hit the pedal without giving it too much thought. The universe changed the instant he did. With every idea crossing his mind, the road ahead extended eternally and changed.
The path grew uneven and shaky as fear entered. The heavens darkened and pressed down on him as regret reared its head. Though he tried to halt, the bike just reacted to his mentality, not to his instructions.
He finally gave up the battle. He let himself confront all that he had buried. Slowly, the road straightened. The air lighten. The ride got easier.
He found himself back where he started when at last it concluded but changed. Though the bike was gone, its lesson still lived. What seems like fate is sometimes just reality catching up with you.
