MicroFiction: A 250 word story written using the word prompt "my ex".
...When the word "ex" is used as in the prompt for today, it usually means that something is in the past. That something or someone no longer holds any meaning or important in one's life. I share a micro-story told in 250 words that is a ZAPFIC 250.
For my theme, I was inspired by and utilized the @daily.prompt's publishing of @mariannewest's Freewrite Writing Prompt Day 2099: my ex.
Below is my story:
Vivian wheezed and coughed uncontrollably for an extended period. She couldn't understand her symptoms. She'd never suffered with major allergies or any other type illness that hindered breathing.
She decided to seek medical attention after consuming numerous over-the-counter seasonal allergy and cough suppressant medications and drop. Staring at the meadow in the wall photo at the doctor's office, a thousand questions scrambled for position after hearing the diagnosis. And they wanted answers.
She never smoked. Her parents never smoked. Her understanding was that if someone smoked in her presence, no harm was caused. She was safe.. So how was she afflicted with the illnesses she now encountered?
She sat frozen as the doctor explained "Secondhand Smoke."
Returning home, she called. Carly, rushed over. "How did that happen?"
"Had to have been my ex." Vivian frowned.
"Boyfriend?" Carly quizzed.
"No. Roommate. The only person I allowed to smoke, but didn't realize I was endangering my heath." Ashamed, Vivian blasted herself for not acting sooner in evicting the boarder. Her reason, though, was consistently late payment obligations.
The steam-cleaning company arrived to refresh her home.
Exhausted but relieved this phase of her life was over, she vowed never to deal with that issue again.
To ensure this, she inserted a restriction in the advertisement before placing it in the classifieds.
Eliminating the smokers, Vivian hoped the next candidate would prove hold up his or her end of the rental agreement.

Consecuencias imprevistas
Vivian respiró con dificultad y tosió sin control durante un largo periodo. No podía entender sus síntomas. Nunca había padecido alergias graves ni ningún otro tipo de enfermedad que dificultara la respiración.

"¿Novio?" preguntó Carly.
