Drabble: A 100 word story written using the word prompt "trust me, my friend".
...This new micro-fiction story format was recently created by @felt.buzz. It's a bit longer than the usual ZAPFIC50 flash fiction I frequently participate in. Although a longer word count, I still struggle to rein in my thoughts to adhere to the 100-word limit. My story involves an older man way past his prime who still believes he has all the right moves in his glory years. Determined to show off his long-forgotten skills, he agrees to prove his bragging.
Often, older people engage in such activities when they should be mindful of their medical or limited mobility conditions, especially after undergoing any type of surgery. The healing process takes longer than some realize.
For my theme, I was inspired by and utilized @mariannewest's Freewrite prompt posts sharing numerous story prompts here: Weekend Freewrite -7/11/2020 - Single Prompt Option.
Below is my story:
"Decades ago, I'd get all the ladies' dance cards." Millard bragged, chugging down another beer.
"Yep, Millard was hell on wheels, admired for his smooth moves. What was your secret?" his neighbor chimed in.
"It's all in the hips." Trust me, my friend.
"Grandpa, show us your smooth moves!" Excited, Andrea ran to the counter for his inline skates.
Unable to dissuade him, Beatrice, his wife responded, "remember, it's all about the hips."
Three beers down, Millard headed toward the skating rink floor.
Recalling his recent hip surgery, Beatrice panicked, frantically searching for Services Department to inquire about emergency readiness.
