Yes, forty years on the beach stuck in her time, but time moved on nevertheless. At least she got the chance to see what she missed or didn't with the brochure available to show her. Thanks for your kind compliment.

I wonder if it is a chance to see what you missed. To me it feels as if he locked her away. It wasn't her way of finding her freedom, herself back.

I don't feel as though she knew what she wanted, but it was her idea of freedom, as she envisioned standing on the beach:

"Irene smiled as a feeling of freedom caressed her."

Then later, she fell asleep, content. She didn't know how long she was asleep, but when she woke, life and time had passed her by.
