MicroFiction: A 250 word story written using the word prompt "reinforce".

...The prompt today "reinforce" reminds me of the parent and child relationship. To reinforce any behavior, whether good or bad, stems from the parents. I share with you a micro story related to a mother and son's intense relationship. The story is told in exactly 250 words.

For my theme, I was inspired by and utilized the @daily.prompt's publishing of @mariannewest's Freewrite Writing Prompt Day 2030. Prompt: reinforce.

Below is my story:

It wasn't something weird Eula made up. It was a fact. She was not the favorite. No words words or special gesture required. She just knew.

Her four siblings knew. Their problem was not putting a voice to the hurt injustice they endured. Their tolerance level, probably high; or, they didn't care.

Parents have favorites. Not food, movies, or cars. But children. Of course, they would never admit it, Eula reasoned.

Eula watched Mother dutifully serve the night shift. Her second job. Rodney demanded a new pair of name-brand sneakers. She promised, but couldn't convince Father of the need or urgency.

That weekend. Eula and siblings witnessed the news report detailing the horrific crime Rodney committed. All in the name of sneakers.

In the aftermath, tears flowed. Comfort rejected. Condolences overlooked. No earthly salve eased the pain of losing her favorite son. Pregnant at fifteen, a unique bond developed, Mother lamented deep in her pillow.

Her favorite child, Rodney. Oh how the ecstasy turned to agony. Hurt? Devastatingly so.

"I'll never know how it feels to favor one over the other," Eula proclaimed to her siblings. I love you all equally. And my greatest hope when I'm a mother, I'll continue on that path."

In front of Rodney's open grave, Eula hugged her siblings as gravediggers closed the chapter of his life as the favored son.

She turned to her Father. "Mother did all for him in this life. She'll be unable to in the next."

Eula prayed to God.

Prompt: reinforce.

A continuación mi historia.

Hijo predilecto

No comida, películas o coches.

Eula rezó a Dios.

Family favouritism is something everyone is familiar with! I've heard parents say they love their children equally but like Eula, the children always know this saying is not true. They know who the parents love more than the others. Sadly, Rodney the favourite, disappointed his parents and chose a wrong path. I guess being a favourite doesn't guarantee good behaviour.

Let's hope Eula stays true to her promise because I'm 99% certain she'll repeat her mother's flaw. We are humans and can never love people equally! 😄 This is a thoughtprovoking story. Thanks for sharing. !LUV

Yes, the practice can be traced back through the ages, often with dire consequences. Parents don't realize the slightest movement in one direction or the other.

In my own experience, when my children were in elementary, on weekends we'd have family day out. Well, one of them pouted all the way to our destination. Puzzled, I asked what was wrong. "I call tell I 'm not your favorite cause you never let me sit in the front seat."

WTH...I had a hundred things on my mind, and that child was worried about who gets to sit in the front seat! An eye opener. But it goes to show the thoughts and emotions that revolve around children and how they interpret them.

It will be a difficult task, indeed, if the character of my story can live up to her promise because it is not easy.

Thanks so much for your visit and thoughtful insight into my story. I appreciate it. Take care and have a good start to your week.

😂 Children are often in their own bubble and nothing else matters except what they feel and want at that moment! I guess as a parent, a person can only do his or her best and hope the child understands. !LUV 😊

If parentd can accomplishment doing their best, then they will have achieved an actionable goal. The more children you have, the more stretched your personal mind resources are.

Yes, the favorite ones can fail. They have not learned responsibility on their own. Some parents themselves fail to realize the harm that can come from favoritism among their children.

Thanks so much for your visit and kind compliment. I appreciate it. Take care.

There are so many times in life that the person we love doesn't work out in our life the way we want it to.

That is so true, @djbravo. Parents must be careful not to display or feel favoritism. Usually, it doesn't work out the way they intended. One never knows the potential of the other children unless given a chance.

Thank you for your visit. I appreciate your support. Take care.

Most welcome dear.

Well, family favoritism happens a lot. Should I say if it is bad or not? One thing I know is that it won't be nice to favour a family member who is not up to the task
It is just like cheating to me

Yes, favoritism happens all the time. And no, it is not worth it in the end. Feeling left out of affection can be devastating to any child.

Thanks for stopping by and viewing my story. I appreciate and your support. Take care.
