A Split Second Decision | A ZapFic100 Story Based on 5 Minute Freewrite (Day 1982) | Prompt: bank failure (quiebra de bancos [Eng/Span]

Drabble: A 100 word story written using the word prompt "bank failure".

...When we first hear the words "bank failure", we automatically think of the sudden bankrupt by a financial institution. People panic if they haven't planned ahead. There's another type of bank failure that also can cause people to panic if they haven't planned ahead. This type of bank failure requires emergency plans be put in place to avoid losing their lives to massive flooding caused by a levee breach.

This new micro-fiction story format created by @felt.buzz is slightly longer than the usual ZAPFIC50 flash fiction I frequently participate in. Although a longer word count, I still struggle to rein in my thoughts to adhere to the 100-word limit. It does help in forcing me to be precise in my stories.

For my theme, I was inspired by and utilized @mariannewest's Freewrite prompt: Day 1982: 5 Minute Freewrite: Monday - Prompt: bank failure.

Below is my story:

Bayous swelled from the week's rain.

Testing water quality near his water facility job site, Malcolm felt uneasy as levels rose several inches that hour.

In the distance, thunderous crashes interrupted his data entry.

Witnessing water rushing violently downstream, he stared, paralyzed for several seconds.

Suddenly, his training kicked in.

He ran, high boots sloshing as water chased him up the bayou's bank.

"Raised bank failure. West Bayou," he radioed his co-worker, Ryan.

Recently hired, Ryan panicked. "What happened?"

"Levee broke! Activate emergency procedures, then alert all managers!"

Malcolm frowned, then sped off, choosing his family's safety first from flooding.

A continuación mi historia.
