Another lazy stereotype walks into the room like background noise. No one questions it. No one stops to consider where it came from. It simply exists—recycled, circulated, and repeated like a worn joke at the end of the night. "You know how they are. " And just like that, another human is boxed, sealed, and labeled by someone who never bothered to see.
Lazy stereotypes are comfort zones for lazy thinkers. They make it simple to disregard others without asking any questions. It's easy to mock something you don't comprehend.
"You're from Nigeria? Must be a scammer. "
"Young people don't like working. "
All of these worn-out scripts prioritize repetition over truth.
What distinguishes it as lazy is the absence of effort involved. No curiosity. No space for surprises. Just assumptions baked into society like they're part of the culture. Stereotypes are noise rather than knowledge. And each time we pick them over genuine understanding, we eliminate the opportunity to connect.
We are not born believing lies about one another. We learn them. And we pass them on as if they were facts.
So, when you encounter another stereotypical joke, don't chuckle.
Pause.
Pushback.
Ask for something better.
Because the world does not require any more boxed-up ideas.
It needs more open-minded individuals.
