GIVEN -- still breaks my heart! XD

in The Anime Realm3 months ago

I originally wanted to make the third anime-related post for the Monthly Quest's first part. However, since it's almost Valentine's Day, I decided to skip it for now and share a romance anime.

There was a phase in my Otaku life when I breathed romance anime and manga. I especially liked Toradora, Lovely Complex, Clannad, Clannad: After Story, Kimi no Todoke, YamaNade, Kaichou wa Maid-sama, Ouran HSHC and many others. They were so fun to watch and made the teenager and/or young adult me want to fall in love. However, I don't feel as excited watching them now as I'm older.

When it comes to romance, I wanted something deeper, forbidden... something hurtful, tragic even! Maybe because of my own experience? haha Just kidding, but jokes are half meant, aren't they? lol

I know this genre isn't for everyone, but I'm actually into Boy's Love and one of my favorites is GIVEN.

In the anime, one of the main characters, Mafuyu had a somewhat dark and depressing past which is connected to a certain guitar he's constantly with. One day, he had an encounter with Uenoyama who criticized him for not taking good care of his guitar.

Mafuyu who was amazed and curious about Uenoyama's knowledge of the instrument started pestering the latter to fix the guitar and teach him how to play. Eventually, Uenoyama gave up and introduced Mafuyu to his band mates, Haruki and Akihiko.

I like every character in this series. They're so adorable despite having their own issues. Mafuyu is such a sweetheart that deserves so much love.

Here's a little trailer of the series below.

I remember crying a lot when I watched this series and just thinking about the story makes me want to cry again. It's not the kind of depressive cry, but more of a heartwarming one.

This series also introduced me to one of my favorite Japanese musician センチミリメンタル (Centimillimental). They sang the soundtrack not only of this series but also GIVEN movie which was released in 2020. And oh, there's an upcoming movie this year, too. I'm so excited to watch it and relive my heartbreak once more.

I'll watch the series again soon! I miss them! And I still listen to the soundtrack and even practiced singing Mafuyu's song Fuyu no Hanashi. It's such an emotional song that my heart clenches when I listen to it. Dang!!!! T_T

And because of how I was really moved by this series when it was released around 5 years ago, I created a poem. Let me share it to you below.

I was this invested and affected by this series. So, even if you're not into BL, won't you give this one a chance?

Thanks for reading and see you around!

It’s looking amazing! I think the characters are very bold and I love to see animes that are related to music it’s been a long time I have watched one of these genre.

Thanks 💖

If you don't mind BL, I recommend you watch this. :) It's a really good series and check out their soundtrack, too! :D

An anime that is also released as a movie, this must be good.

It wasn't released as a movie, but there was a movie in 2020 (side story) and another one this year. The series and movie don't have the same story. xDD But yeah, it is good!

but there was a movie in 2020 (side story)

Like a spin-off?

Not really a spin off, but the focus is on the other characters. :)

I love all the recommendations you make in your blog, this and DIVE have been put on my personal list after reading your posts and now that I'm surfing around looking for some different ones away from what I usually see which are the shonen.

Yaaay! I'm glad to know that! ^^ Of course, I love shonen, too... but I try to watch various genres! There are a lot of interesting and exciting anime. On my next post, I'm going to introduce another anime from a different genre. :) See you around and thanks for dropping by! :)

I haven't heard about this anime before but it looks really nice! I'm not a fan of romance stuff but I must admit that one of my toxic traits is that I like to watch things that make me cry, so I'm pretty sure I'm going to watch this anime hahaha

Thanks for sharing this :3

I feel you... I'm not much into romance these days, but I enjoy the angst!!! 😎✌️

Thanks for dropping by..

Oh my god, it's touching to see how this anime had such an impact on you to the point that you made a poem, that's great.

I've already seen a couple of reviews that speak highly of Given, in fact in the trailers it looks great.

Thanks for sharing! See you soon!

I've created several poems for either an anime or a certain character. Sometimes they just move you so much that it's overwhelming, so I had to let the feelings out. Hahahaha 😂😂😂

And yes, Given deserves all that praise. 😁 Thank you and see you around! 😊

This anime is really special for you so much that you found one of your favorite japanese musician besides making a poem, it really marked you. I watched three of the anime you mention although one is clannad which for me is one of the best because it is a little more realistic so to speak, I recommend angel beats is also one of the classics of romance, just like you I also started was with pure anime that shatter your heart. this interesting given even more curious to see it more than all because of how this anime marked you. Good post <3

It is! :)
I know Angel Beats but never really watched it. Though I remember a bunch of friends recommending it to me back then. I should give it a shot one of these days. Have you ever watched AnoHana? It's also really heartbreaking, but I love it so much!!! There's a series and movie version, but it would be awesome to watch the series. Thanks!

I recommend it to you Angel beats you will cry HAHAHAH it has very nice stories of each character, it develops both their characters and the relationships they have with the others. I saw AnoHana I didn't cry until the final chapter it completely destroyed me, I couldn't stop crying, I didn't know there was a movie so I'll leave it there I don't want to suffer again HAHAHAH by the way I only watched the anime.

The movie is basically a short form of the whole series, so if you've already watched the series, it's ok.. and yeah, that "Menma, mitsuketta!" moment still makes my heart ache until now. hahaha Ahhh~ I'll check it. Thanks! haha
