Hello everyone.
This is an acrylic painting depicting a pianist in profile, wearing a black hat and with a cigarette in his mouth. The work is inspired by a photographic reference visible in the upper left corner. I created this painting as part of an exercise.
I present to you the different stages of the creation of the acrylic painting Amsterdam.
The main figure is a man seated at the piano, seen from a three-quarter back view. He wears a wide-brimmed black hat that partially obscures his face, a white shirt, and a dark vest. A cigarette is casually placed between his lips. His hands rest on the piano keys. His right hand appears to be playing the higher notes, while his left hand is more relaxed on the lower keys.
The atmosphere is bohemian, melancholic, and elegant, evoking the world of jazz pianists, cabaret performers, or artists of the early 20th century.
The style is expressionist with a touch of impressionism. The color palette is dominated by blacks, grays, and whites, with touches of red and pink on the vest and hands. The background is treated very freely, almost abstractly, with streaks of paint.
The hands and face are rendered with greater precision, while the rest of the body and the background are more gestural and loose.
This painting symbolizes sensitivity, creative solitude, and emotional expression through music.
I should mention that I gave this painting as a gift after its completion. I felt that this painting wasn't my own creation but rather an exercise in reproduction.
Thank you for this brief read. Take care.
