A croissant or nothing
Hear me out. Pain au chocolate, always sounds and looks great. Then you see a bakery where they are freshly baked, sounds even better. So I decide to get in and have a coffee and order one. What are my thoughts about it? Just wait for it.
Here I am walking around Greenwich. After a nice walk around, visiting the market and a little walk in Greenwich park for sure a warm coffee and some freshly baked pastries sound amazing, because the day looked amazing but the temperatures are still not synchronized with the beautiful open, clean and blue skies.
A nice bakeryI have never heard about GAIL's before but from the outside, the pastries and the bread looked fresh and delicious so I thought it would be a good idea to try it out.
The place was very underwhelming, and the atmosphere was not the best. But maybe that is not their goal, maybe more than a place to stay it is more a bakery to go and get your freshly baked goods and go. Nothing wrong with that.
It was around 5 o'clock and the choices were already quite limited.
The staff was all really nice and helpful and that is a plus for me.
Freshly baked Coffee always go with a good pastryThe Coffee and the pastry
The real talk and the worst part starts now. I am guessing they only serve take away cups and that is all good. What was not good was the coffee. I have to say that this is one of the most terrible coffees I have drank in a while. And you know that now I am walking around and trying coffees everywhere. And many of them are bad but this was another level terrible. I don't even have words to describe it.
Now, pain au chocolate, the idea is great and I am always tempted to have one. Bread and chocolate, 2 of my most favourite things together? How can it go wrong right?
Wrong...
Took it to go but end up staying inIn my many years that I have been trying over and over again try to give a new opportunity to this pasty. It always fail to impress me.
This time because it was freshly baked I had higher expectations and I was so upset once again when it was not what I need from a pain au chocolate to give me.
I think that after this attempt to give it another chance, now I am done with it. Give me a chocolate croissant or nothing.
Just the ratio of chocolate to pastry that is used and the way it is on it is so wrong. They are always so dry and disappointing. I know we are just talking about a pastry but I am crossing this from my list and I probably will never ever again will have a pain au chocolate.
This was it for me.
I don't get why People like thisAs I said it was only 5 o'clock and there were not a lot of choices. They have an open kitchen that was completely empty and closed, fair to say that the baking have stopped many hours ago. That was something else that was disappointing. Because when you enter a bakery you want to feel that warm temperature and to smell that amazing freshly baked good.
There was not even a hint of that delicious smell and that was something else that got me really disappointed and not wanting to come back to GAIL's.
Maybe to try their bread, but you won't see me having their coffee around. No way that will happen.
An open kitchenIn conclusion, you won't see me visiting this place ever again. I don't like to talk negatively about the places that I visit but in this case there is not really a lot of positives that I can share with you.
Sorry Gail. Oops.
