the small town where i grew up (Easton, Ma USA) has a number of unique historical works of architecture commissioned by the Ames family. the family made their fortune in the 1800's supplying equipment to the northern army in the civil war and the construction of the union pacific railroad.
among the architectural treasures is the Unity Church of North Easton, built in the English Gothic Revival style with two stained glass masterpieces by the renowned artist John La Farge.

The Angel of Help was commissioned in 1882 and installed in 1887.
according to Stained Glass Quarterly:
"La Farge had just completed what a critic declared in the 1887 Art Review to be “the most elaborate window made in the United States.” What La Farge did not know is that this would be the first of two masterpieces he would create for the church, two important windows that would become the crown jewels in a small New England town already resplendent with architectural treasures"

now Lafarge was the artist and designer but he did not actually build the windows. that is an art in itself and in order to get the effect Lafarge was demanding Thomas Wright developed new techniques and was the one who constructed them.
