Why I Believe Gaming Is A Pivotal Part To Growth For Crypto

When it comes to gaming I bet each and every one of you have played some type of game. Even bought a game or bought a item in a game in your life time. What makes gaming so epic is that it's enjoyable can be played with friends and really just builds a strong community around it of those who enjoy the game to talk about it with strategies etc.

In fact the gaming industry is expected to grow to 256 billion by 2025 with over 2.5 billion playing games world wide. This is a MASSIVE industry for cryptocurrency to tap into. Quick seamless payments, NFT's verified on the blockchain and I'm sure much more to come. In fact starting early 2021 we should start seeing MMO type games like WOW run on blockchains!

Onboarding is a major issue with a lot of blockchains right now. It's difficult to understand keys and how it all works and many coming in for the first time don't understand if you lose your keys well that's it! Gaming providers often times an easier to sign up onboarding process. Nothing complicated to understand just create an account, wallet auto generated PDF sent with the wallet data.

In many cases crypto games don't even feel like they are crypto games. The in game currency is a token of the game on whatever blockchain and NFTs are tied to the account and can be accessed by the marketplace. Currently two things missing from most games here on Hive. Many Hive games end up using Wax for NFTs and there's no reason why Hive itself couldn't support NFTs as we have seen it done with NFTShowRoom. If anyone is a dev that would be up for building this let me know.

We have grown accustom to most games having their own form of currently be it VBucks in Fortnite, ISK/PLEX eve online or a host of other games. What if those in game currencies actually provided you with value as you earned them in the game.

Would that not make you play even more and perhaps invest more time/money into the game?

Right now there are a number of crypto related games that are easy to start getting involved with. I listed some of the few I enjoy the most. Playing these actually earns me roughly $20 + a day! Which is nuts lol

SplinterLands Hive, Wax
AlienWorldsWax
Rising Star

There are a host of upcoming popular games but honestly the gaming community within crypto has been a little locked down as of late with high fees from networks like Ethereum. This really has hampered growth for the gaming community in crypto however I see if we push some good quality games and marketing around them for Hive along with a solid market place we could really ramp things up around here. I'm sure HIVE was built to be much more than a simple blogging platform with voting.

I developed a business plan to do just that a few years ago, as part of a competition, while I was finishing up my PhD in entrepreneurship.

I won 3rd place, but did not have the bandwidth at the time to pursue it further.

(Side note: George Gilder, upon reviewing the plan, remarked: “I think your proposal is ingenious and impressive.”).

In fact, the genesis of the idea behind that business plan was the direct result of me trying to solve what Gilder refers to as ‘the Bitcoin Flaw’ in his book Life after Google, about which I have written here and here.

I had incorporated Token Bonding Curves as an up-front valuation method and to provide reserve currency and instantaneous liquidity for early ‘investors’ (this is now referred to as a Bonding Curve Offering, but that term had not yet been coined when I began toying with the concept).

I still have thoughts about dusting it off, updating it, and seeing if it can take flight.

Well It honestly sounds like you had a passion for it at one time. If you have the time and resources now it could very well be worth something adding to your legacy and building your own version of how you feel a solid system would work on a blockchain.

The more minds, products and systems we have running in this fashion the better. It sparks creativity and advancement.

Thanks for your words of encouragement. Yes, I will likely pick it back up, hopefully soon.

At the moment, I have a few other more pressing blockchain-related projects I intend to devote my time to, the first of which involves working toward a truly decentralized DHF.

Look forward to it. Have you on follow so I can catch wind of any posts you make so please keep myself and others updated with articles on the project/projects as you can.

I have never been a gamer. Pinball growing up, maybe some PacMan and a few others. With that said, I've never been oblivious to it and know the impact it has culturally, financially and generationally. If I could find one on HIVE that I can truly get into, I would probably be swayed to remain consistent with it. But for the life of me, I can't get into it. As an affiliate marketer, I have to figure out a way to tap into it somehow.

Games and blogging are great for giving people some tasks they know how to do, and they gradually learn crypto

I think trading card games like Gods Unchained and Sorare have a great future ahead. Both work on ETH, but you only pay transaction costs, when you're loading up your ingame-wallet.

Gods Unchained created a layer 2 solution completely on ETH and the market startet booming.

There's also a lot of realestate games like dCity and Upland. One of those will surely explode. It's just too much competition and no clear market leader.

Sandbox could have a great future, when it start letting people actually play.

I did see gods unchained launched a 2nd market so they could get away from high fees. It's for sure one thing that killed a lot of projects including games but hopefully next year we will see a change in that.

It's honestly a massive market that is just getting started here and hitting a lot of bumps. Once that all gets smoothed out you're going to see massive money flow in through gaming and it wont be insitutional investors it will just be a mass of people.

cant compare WAX and HIVE, WAX is build exactly for NFT's and blockchain gaming while HIVE..has yet to brand itself as anything really. That said there are a number of developers here who have built in-game currencies and markets. Problem is that they are all working on different systems, and cant come together under one umbrella in order to succeed together.

This is true and why I've been so vocal about the devs on Hive to start building these things. I feel like they have been so busy with dumb background things and changing values of APR on HBD and trying to make it stable instead of building things like this instead. Just imagine if there was a NFT marketplace for the games currently on hive with a super low or no fee just like Wax. It kind of drives me nuts that we aren't working towards these things and wasting time and resources on massive marketing projects. I'm not even sure what we would market to tell you the truth. A place to drop a blog post and that's about it?

I think so as well. It has been a whole adventure on Alien Worlds as I saw the TLM price explode. The huge influx of users on WAX causes some other issues but the first thing is to attract users. But would the best way to attract users be to promote a game or to create a bridge between a game and an exchange? I do not know but Alien Worlds choose the bridge method.

Ah totally many people follow hype and prices. Those mining NFT cards went from $200 and 10x or better in value and still seem to be sitting around that same price point now. It's crazy but that crazy I hope comes here to hive.

There are so many wonderful blockchain games with wonderful projects surrounding it...those games can also be used as a way to make a crypto to become more valuable and popular....@bitcoinflood

Posted via proofofbrain.io

I wasn't aware that splinterlands uses WAX for NFTs.

Definitely agree that gaming is going to be a great way to onboard new users, particularly if the key management can be simplified.

Posted via proofofbrain.io

Yep you have to covert the cards to be used on wax and I haven't been able to find much demand or luck over there as of yet as I feel it's still a little new there. I know of two marketplaces so far for Wax but I really want to find one that shows be how many cards are listed of each and at what prices they have been selling for.

You're absolutely right. The game component is very important in our life. This is what game creators use to gain an audience. Many games continue to improve on HIVE now. Who knows, maybe one of them will become even better than those that already exist.

Definitely hive was build for more than a social platform, I believe with the time the right people, programmers and so on will come around to help us build around the core.
I was in a place years ago where I was playing a lot of games.
But right now I’m in a place where I’m trying to place the game of life in the best possible scenario.

Namaste 🙏

good point, i see the whole of crypto as one massive game....and the games are well a game within a game!

hello @bitcoinflood,
I think the gaming world is very big and epic not to mention that gaming is a billion dollar industry, for now games that pay coins are not very common but eventually all games will be paid in coins and this will drive more coins.

publicity note:
I'm promoting That curation trail on HIVE and it would help me a lot if you forward it, You can also check it yourself: you might find it interesting to join, I'd love to hear your comments.

Two things I don't believe in. Curation trails and Delegations. Curation trails just means people are going to put things on auto pilot and not read articles, curate or leave comments. It kills engagement in my opinion. That's nothing personal against you or what you do it's just my views and beliefs in which I respect yours for doing what you want to do with your voting power :)
