Garden Update: From Seeds to Seedlings (Cherry Tomato and Water Spinach), Mustard Greens and Other Plants <3

in Agricultural Mindset11 months ago

For the past weeks, I have shared posts about planting some seeds for our home garden, so now, I'm going to show some progress shots. :)

Originally, we planted some bonsai eggplant and white onion, too. Unfortunately, I don't see any progress... so it's either the seeds weren't good or the way we planted them were incorrect. In addition, I planted around twenty cherry tomato seeds... however, there are only three seedlings. Nevertheless, I'm glad to see them compared to having no seedlings at all.

The other container where I planted the eggplants and white onions is full of weeds. It's sad... but oh well, I'll try to get some seeds from another store next time. Hopefully, they're better.

As for these cherry tomato seedlings, I'm going to replant them later this afternoon after I guide the kids in the community garden. The community garden has a lot of weeds now. We were supposed to do some weeding last weekend, but the weather wasn't very friendly, so hopefully it stays fine and a bit windy later in the afternoon.

I took this photo of our community garden last Friday and as you see, there's a lot to work on. haha I've already talked with the kids this morning and even the little ones volunteered to help. :)

Now, going back to our home garden...

If you remember the water spinach (kangkong) we planted last weekend, here are some progress shots I took within the week.

This was last Tuesday... there's almost nothing.

Last Wednesday, you can see this tiny bright seedling in middle of the basin.

Took this yesterday morning (Friday). There are more of the bright green seedlings. :)

Then, just a few minutes ago, I went at the back of our house after lunch and this was how they look. They're growing quite well. I guess it's easier to grow water spinach because the water spinach in the community garden has grown really big and many of our neighbors has harvested some leaves already.

I'm excited for this because I like eating adobong kangkong. <3

When we bought the seeds online last time, one of our neighbors asked us to get some mustard greens as well and they'd just pay us because if they bought just mustard greens seeds, the shipping fee would be more expensive than the item. lol

We did and actually gave the seeds for free. And because of that, our neighbor gave us a bunch of mustard greens seedlings.

This was how the seedlings looked like when they gave it to us. It's similar to the iceberg lettuce... there's just a bunch of them!!

And here's how they look a while ago. I'm planning to replant a few of them for the home garden and plant the rest in the community garden or perhaps give out some seedlings to other neighbors as well. :)

Now, let's take a look at our other plants' progress... <3

Our malabar spinach is ready to harvest. Mama is already planning some recipe to use this either tomorrow or next week. They look so good. <3

A new baby eggplant is about to grow... and I guess, there will be two other eggplants from the same pot. Two flowers just wilted... so they'll most likely become like this baby soon. This baby's flower wilted the other day. :)

The two new tomato fruits have grown as big as the older fruit now. And the older fruit has started to change into a lighter color. It'll probably become yellow or orange-y soon.

Also, we no longer have any lettuce left. They already reached their final stage... we have new seeds, so we're going to get the previous soil from the pots and mix it with new ones later this afternoon so we could plant new seeds as well.

It's going to be quite busy later. I'm excited, though. :) I'll be documenting our activities as well, so look forward to them. See you around! I'll relax and gather my energy first. Have an awesome one! :)

there is still much work to be done but the fruits of the work is already showing up.
Nicely done

That's true... haven't finished everything yesterday... so there's still a bunch of things to do next weekend.. :) It's fun and relaxing, though. ^^ Thanks! <3
