Garden to Table: Harvesting and Cooking Moringa Leaves and Okra from Home Garden... <3

In my usual garden visit routine this morning, my mama went with me because she's going to harvest some some moringa leaves and okra for as additional ingredients of our lunch.

This is what my mama cooked for lunch. :) Let's get back to this later. :)

Let me show you some pictures as mama was harvesting earlier.

As you may noticed, we transferred the okra and malabar spinach above where the lettuce used to be. It's super hot in the Philippines these days and the lettuce couldn't really stand the heat that much. We placed them below in the shade, so their leaves wouldn't wilt.

We try to cover this part of the garden during the hottest hours of the day, though. Even during my morning visits at 8AM, the heat of the sun is already painful, so you can just imagine how hot it is in the middle of the day.

Anyway, mama harvested some okra. It's our first harvest from these bonsai ones. :)

Then, she took some leaves from our small moringa tree in a pot. haha This is actually the second harvest. They grow so fast, so it's amazing and we're quite lucky. Moringa is delicious and is perfect even for simple soup and they're considered a superfood. :)

Here's our harvest and mama is going to cook something with it for lunch. It's a simple sardines soup dish.

Here are the other ingredients. The red one is spicy. Mama doesn't like spicy food, so we just mix one spicy sardines with the regular one. We also have to prepare some onions and garlic.

Mama did the cooking after we had our breakfast, (We usually just have bread for our brekky.) while I start with my morning classes.

During my lunch break, she finished cooking and we're all ready to eat.

It's a simple dish, but delicious. It's funny because I can't eat fresh fish anymore, but my body can still take sardines and tuna in can. At least, right?? I'm still able to enjoy this simple sardines and okra in tomato soup with moringa leaves. Yummy~!!!

That's it for this post. Thanks a bunch for checking it out! See you around! <3
