I believe that life hits you when there are still unresolved problems.
You think you're fine, in your precarious balance, but no, and the problem is precisely in that little word: precarious.
Because if it is true that your internal balance is stable, it can be influenced by the actions of the people who, like it or not, gravitate around you.
And this is exactly what happened yesterday.

Le cose più belle nascono per caso, a volte all'improvviso, ma solo se prima abbiamo lavorato duro e reso fertile il terreno affinché potessero germogliare e crescere.
La vita è strana.
Ti colpisce sempre, nel bene e nel male, e spesso quando meno te lo aspetti.
Io credo che la vita ti colpisca quando ci sono ancora dei problemi irrisolti.
Tu credi di stare bene, nel tuo precario equilibrio, invece no, e il problema è proprio in quella piccola parola: precario.
Perché se è vero che il tuo equilibrio interiore è stabile, esso può essere influenzato dall'agire delle persone che, volente o nolente, ti gravitano attorno.
E proprio questo è successo ieri.
It was an evening like many others, a dinner like many others.
A tsunami that had been brewing for many days in the soul of one of the guests suddenly brought to shore a very high wave of ancient resentments and frustrations that had never subsided, full of rubbish collected from the dark abyss of the ocean, and suddenly poured onto the body and soul of my daughter.
I have always thought I was inadequate as a mother, incapable of physically and psychologically raising small, non-self-sufficient creatures. Being me first doesn't mature enough to be able to support the weight of parenthood.
Era una sera come tante, una cena come tante.
Uno tsunami che covava a largo da molti giorni nell'animo di uno dei commensali ha portato improvvisamente a riva un onda altissima di antichi rancori e frustrazioni mai sopite, piene di spazzatura raccattata dall'abisso scuro dell'oceano, e si è riversato improvviso sul corpo e sull'animo di mia figlia.
Ho sempre pensato di essere non adeguata come madre, incapace di crescere fisicamente e psicologicamente delle piccole creature non autosufficienti. Di essere io per prima non matura al punto giusto per essere in grado di sostenere il peso della genitorialità.
But something surprised me much more than the tsunami to which I am so used to not even being alerted when the thunderous warning sirens go off.
Yesterday I saw a fragile little girl of almost 15 years old throwing herself against a high and serious wave, big yes, but small inside. A little David against a soulless Goliath, who slashed a slingshot and raised a wall of words that merged into such an articulate and truthful speech.
And the tsunami slammed hard against that dam while I was lulled between Freud and Nietzsche, embracing and calling my demons by name: fear, inadequacy, anxiety.
And the demons told me: you were good, you're doing a good job, your garden is blooming.
Ma qualcosa mi ha stupito molto più dello tsunami al quale sono così abituata da non allertarmi nemmeno quando scattano le fragorose sirene di allarme.
Ieri ho visto una fragile bambina di quasi 15 anni scagliarsi contro un'onda alta e grave, grossa sì, ma piccola dentro. Un piccolo Davide contro un Golia senza anima, che fendeva una fionda e alzava un muro di parole che si fondevano in un discorso così articolato e veritiero.
E lo tsunami ha sbattuto forte contro quella diga mentre io mi sono cullavo fra Freud e Nietzsche, abbracciando e chiamando per nome i miei demoni: paura, inadeguatezza, ansia.
E loro mi hanno detto: sei stata brava, stai facendo un buon lavoro, il giardino sta sbocciando.
And I felt a sense of dizziness, the same I feel watching the complicated wrapping and unfurling of the petals of a rose. A chaotic beauty without geometric constraints, free.
And in the vertigo I suffocated every sense of guilt.
Ed io ho provato un senso di vertigine, lo stesso che provo guardando il complicato avvolgersi e svolgersi dei petali di una rosa. Una bellezza caotica senza vincoli di geometria, libera.
E nella vertigine ho soffocato ogni senso di colpa.
