ASEAN Hive Community Challenge #56 : How Do You Beat The Heat?

in ASEAN HIVE COMMUNITY11 months ago

This is such an interesting topic especially these days because we're experiencing really hot and humid weather almost every day. It's almost 10PM now as I'm typing this and the temperature is 28°C while the humidity is at around 80%. So you can imagine how worse it could get in the daytime.

For ASEAN Hive Community Challenge #56, the topic is "How Do You Beat The Heat?".

Since I work from home, I'm mostly inside my room. However, in order to lessen the noise from our neighbors and the like, we totally closed my room... meaning, it doesn't have any window. I have an air conditioner inside my room, but I try to use it wisely because the electricity bill is no joke, so as much as possible, I just turn it on during my afternoon classes since it's the hottest hours of the day and a couple hours at night so I can sleep well.

When Philippine summer came, my room is like a sauna even with the air conditioner, so I also use a fan. However, as I'm trying to save electricity, I thought of some ways... and this is what happened.

Turning on the light would add more heat inside my room, so I turn it off most of the time and just use the LED strip I placed in my mini office under my bed. I also have a ring light so it won't look very dark on camera during my classes.

And as you've noticed, I placed a comforter to serve as a curtain. This way, most of the cool air from the air conditioner would stay in my mini office. It's actually pretty effective and I need not use the fan. At around 4PM, I'd turn off my air conditioner and use my fan, so I'd put the comforter back up on my bed.

In addition, I drink lots of water to rehydrate. I don't drink cold water in between classes because I'd have to use my voice a lot at work. However, if it isn't in between classes like during our meals, I drink cold water... and we also do this.

It's my day off today, so I had this iced orange juice for breakfast. I sometimes have iced coffee or maybe some pocari. Recently, we don't drink hot drinks for breakfast because it would only worsen the heat. Have you noticed the ice cubes above? They even melted pretty fast. We just take them out for a couple minutes and it starts melting almost instantly. xD

Anyway, as I've mentioned, it's my day off, so I could have some more options to beat the heat and it's this one...

Yummy!!!

Eating some ice cream really helps you feel much cooler, but it's too sweet, so I had to drink lots of water afterwards. I don't eat much ice cream despite the heat because of my job, but when I'm off from work, I could enjoy some.

In the end, nothing beats water when it comes to keeping yourself cool. Be it having a shower or drinking lots of water to rehydrate yourself and quench your thirst. It's because even if I drink other cold drinks, I'd still need to wash them off with water. Water is life!!!!

I'll end this post here. I'm going to stay in the living room because the natural night air is cooler than the fan in my room now. haha See you around! (^o^)/

Sort:

I rarely eat ice cream but it is this time of year that my coffee consumption switches from hot to iced. A hot day with a hot coffee is a recipe for disaster because I will start sweating and wont be able to stop because of the caffeine.

That's so true... it's impossible to drink something hot these days. It makes us more uncomfortable... Take care... relax and enjoy some iced coffee! :D

Thanks for posting in the ASEAN Hive Community.

Thank you... :)

Eating ice cream and drinking cold beverages! hehe that's also what I really like to do when the weather is so hot in our place.

It's a must, isn't it??? :D

There is nothing quite like the combo of cold ice cream and cold water. Every time I ate a ice cream as a kid, I always craved cold water, but never wondered why. Apparently there is some science to this, and I learned this when I visited my first authentic Italian gelato shop, where a glass of cold water was brought to the table after I finished my ice cream, a very nice touch.

I love your little diy office, you've made good use of a small space.

Haven't really read or searched the science behind it... but water makes it even more satisfying... Thanks!!! ^^
