I missed the deadline for the previous ASEAN Hive Community Challenge due to some reasons, but I'm more than happy and excited to participate this time. The topic is pretty interesting... It seems simple but for people who are movie buffs, it's quite challenging to answer the question, "What's your favorite movie?"
Well, I don't consider myself a movie buff, but I do enjoy watching movies or even series. I do watch stuff from different genre but if I were to choose my favorite ones, that would be psychological horror, thriller and animated films.
So, in this post, I'm going to talk about some of my favorite movies and why I like them.

Not a lot of people enjoy the horror genre. That's totally understandable, because despite being into this genre, I don't like all horror films.
One of the reasons why I like Insidious is the concept of astral projection. Yes, Insidious may be known for its jump scares and all, but what really got me into this movie was different. Astral Projection is commonly known as intentional out-of-the-body experience. I think it's awesome to separate one's soul from its vessel or body.

It's not the house that's haunted, it's your son. Ahh~ I love this scene when Elise explains to Dalton's parents what's happening to their son.
There was this one time my bestie and I went to a local library in our area and I saw this pretty old book. There were some articles related to astral projection which became some kind of ritual in the ancient times. It was so interesting, but I had to cut my reading short because my bestie kept on sneezing. lol The old and dusty scent of the books weren't very friendly to her, so we went out.
Insidious reminded me of that book and I found myself enjoying the movie. There were some really scary scenes in the film and also really funny ones. I've watched this film more than 5 times already, I think. haha I'd still watch it again when I get the chance. :)
Recently, I've watched a film with the astral projection concept and it was actually pretty good, too. It's called Doctor Sleep. I suppose it's connected to another interesting horror film called "The Shining". Sadly, I haven't got the chance to watch it, though. Doctor Sleep was based on a Stephen King novel and was directed by my favorite horror film director Mike Flanagan.

When it comes to Psychological Thriller, THE SIXTH SENSE immediately comes to mind. The plot was pretty simple but the twist at the end was undeniably one of the best! It didn't really have a lot of jump scares or tension buildups, but the psychological factor used in this movie was amazing. I couldn't appreciate it that much when I watched it the first time when I was young, but when I watched it again as an adult who is pretty curious about mental and behavioral health, it blew my mind.
When I studied nursing in my university years, one of my favorite subjects was Psychiatric Nursing. I find it very interesting for me to observe and try to understand the reasons why people think and behave the way they do. I guess, it's one of the reasons why I enjoy watching films the characters of which have some mental or behavioral problems. :)
Having said that, one of my favorite animated films also reflects mental, behavioral and social issues.

Although I like tons of animated films from various animation studios and genres, but this film really had a huge impact on me. It's called KOE NO KATACHI or A Silent Voice in English, though if you translate the Japanese title literally it would mean, the shape of voice.
It's basically about a deaf girl who is trying her best to live normally but was bullied at school. However, the person who bullied her the most turned out to be bullied himself until he became depressed and started having suicidal ideation.

The topic is pretty sensitive, but I highly believe that it should be discussed. This movie is an amazing tool to make people have a better understanding on issues like depression, social isolation and the like.
On the technical aspect, I super like the art and animation style. Well, what do you expect??? It's a KyoAni (Kyoto Animation) film after all. The soundtrack is also really good! <3

I've watched it multiple times and it still affects me the same way it did the first time I watched it. Recently, it has been added on Netflix (Philippines, I'm not sure with other countries), so please do watch this when you get the chance. <3
These are some of the movies which I consider my favorites so far. There are a lot of movies that I like, especially animated ones. I believe I have written about them in my past blogs... but I will add more in the days, weeks, months or even years to come. As of now, I'm looking forward to watching One Piece: RED and the upcoming Makoto Shinkai film Suzume no Tojimari.
Thanks for checking out this post. This is my entry for @asean.hive 's ASEAN Hive Community Challenge #19 - What's Your Favorite Movie?.
