RE: World of Warcraft - Subscribed again, after a 14 year Gap

You must have so much free time on your hands. I bet your wife loves that!

She doesn't know I am back on. Its like an alcohol relapse. Hopefully it wont last. I loved Burning Crusade, and this is about nostalgia, or that's what I am telling myself.

The retail version is slicker, but lacks the character of what we saw all those years ago. Duskwood waits..

Haha, are you playing Warcraft like a secret alcoholic?

I think about some of the games that were fun decades ago, but my chief obstacle is that they would just obliterate vast quantities of time.

I played the original WOW for a few months back in 2004-2005. I would sit down to play around 6:00 PM after work and I would look up and it would be close to midnight.

Tangential but the one game I really miss was an MMO that preceded WOW - Asheron's Call. It came out around 1999-2000. That game was also a time destroyer. It had randomly generated loot, within certain ranges. You never know what a mob might drop, so it was easy to get caught killing "just one more."

Asheron's Call.

I dont recall that one, before WOW it was Everquest.. for several years. I tried others.., most of which I can't remember now. DAOC, Eve Online were two.., the latter being ferocious.

DAOC was fun for a time, but often seemed super laggy in larger PVP battles.

There was a time when the classic servers were more of a rogue thing and you had to find the people who were running them privately. That was some fun. Running Scholomance again for the first time and stuff like that.

Scholomance

I remember the name, a dungeon without looking. You mentioned Stranglethorn. I remember running to Booty Bay... monsters chasing me as I was too low to be around there. That one took some doing..., big zone.

Yes! That's exactly what I am talking about. Countless runs back and forth between stormwind and booty bay.
