The Design:
On the obverse of 1oz Mexican Gold Libertad Coins is Winged Victory. Her figure dominates the foreground and is encircled by engravings of the year of issue, weight, purity, and metal content for the coin. In the background are two physical landmarks visible from Mexico City. The twin volcanic peaks of Popocatepetl and Iztaccihuatl rise into the sky behind Winged Victory, in real life, and on this coin.

On the reverse of the 2018 1oz Mexican Gold Libertad coin focuses on the nation's coat of arms. In the center is the modern version of this seal, with the outside rim filled by 10 historic depictions of the seal as it has changed over time.

I’ve bought and sold a lot of gold over the years. I had never really looked into Mexican Gold until I saw the 2018 Reverse Proof Libertad. I scooped up one of those Reverse Proofs and sent it off to PCGS for grading; I’ll post the results and photos at a later date.
After I saw the design on the Reverse Proof it got me thinking about the regular bullion coins they make. I hopped online and ordered this 2018 1oz Gold Libertad. When this thing got here I was amazed. I immediately stuck it in a capsule that was made to fit the 1oz Gold Eagles and Buffalos from the US Mint. As you can tell from these photos the coin doesn’t fit perfectly.
I eventually ordered 25 plastic capsules the correct size and told myself I was going to fill them all. This was probably something I could have accomplished, but shortly after I discovered my love for Pre-33 Gold and that has been my focus since.
I'll probably pick up a few more of these as time goes on. Maybe just once a year so I can have one of each date.
What do you all think about these coins???
