HiveBloPoMo Day 30: End of the Road — Reflecting on the Month That Was!

in HiveBloPoMo2 years ago

Today is Day 30 of HiveBloPoMo, and so, the challenge comes to an end — today is the last day, and the last writing prompt of the challenge is to reflect on the experience.

You can read more about HiveBloPoMo here, if you feel so inclined.

I do want to say many thanks to @traciyork for organizing the challenge and even setting up a community for it! I also want to congratulate those who did manage to blog every day for 30 days... you guys rock!

Couldn't Stick to it...

Well... technically speaking, I failed. That is, I did not manage to create a new blog post on every day of the month of November. Originally, I was "led astray" by the fact that we had a power outage that lasted almost 20 hours and we had no Internet during that time, and we live too BFE to have strong enough cell service that I could publish from my phone.

Although I continued to pursue the challenge after that happened, my heart really wasn't in it as much as before. I wanted that HiveBuzz badge, dammit! Oh, well.

In the end, I created a challenge-specific post on 22 of the 30 days of the challenge, which I guess I would describe as a "fair" effort. Even so, I did enjoy trying, and had fun with the posts which took me off to come topics I don't normally write about.

Did I Learn Anything?

Well, perhaps not anything new.

I already knew that I was not great at anything that requires me to show up, every single day. My natural creativity pattern suggests that it takes me about ten days or so to grow impatient and rebellious towards a routine, and this was not exception!

I have previously attempted the original NaNoWriMo Challenge on a number of occasions... and even though I do love to write, I never finished any of those, either.

Perhaps the learning here is that I live a life where not all days are really my own to the extent that I can make such commitments successfully... there are always power outages, family crises, holidays and other stuff that has more importance and weight than maintaining a rigid schedule.

As an aside, I expect that's also why "going to work" at a regular 9-to-5 job didn't ever sit very well with me, at least not in the conventional sense. I tend to be far more task-based than schedule-based. Which is slightly odd, given that I really prefer routine to randomness... routines without schedules, anyone?

Anyway, time to put HiveBloPoMo to rest for another year... will I try again in 2022? Very likely! And one of these years I might even finish it all!

Thanks for stopping by... we will now resume our regular programming!

How about YOU? Did you participate in HiveBloPoMo? Did you complete 30 posts in 30 days? If so — congratulations! If you DIDN'T participate, does it sound like a challenge you might try, down the road? Comments, feedback and other interaction is invited and welcomed! Because — after all — SOCIAL content is about interacting, right? Leave a comment — share your experiences — be part of the conversation!

I think we have this in common @denmarkguy!

I too know that I tend to rebel when it comes to doing anything (other than talking, eating, breathing, sleeping, showering, etc) every single day. Too much routine, schedule, rigidity and I feel totally trapped and, actually, bored.

But, I do love writing. So perhaps the next time HiveBloPoMo rolls around I might just give it a go... and see what happens ;)

I suppose if I were to be somewhat objective about what challenges me... it would be that I tend to prefer pretty creative activities, and my creativity rarely flows consistently or in a straight line. So in writing (for example), I can easily have periods where I could write three posts a day for a week... followed by one single post for the entire following week.

And yes, I do love writing. But even my personal handwritten journals reflect that I work in fits and starts.

routines without schedules, anyone?

Oh yeah! routines without schedules! ¡Hurray!

I must be the king. That's the almighty secret weapon of the rebels. ;)

I expect you're the king of many things, my friend! We must have our secret weapons or the rebellion will never succeed!

Very beautiful views 💖

Thank you!
