June 1, 2020, marks an important day for the #hive community. The Hive blockchain now holds the official record of Splinterlands transactions.
Two changes You May Have Missed
I noticed the following two changes that may be easy to skip over for people who have already transitioned to the Hive blockchain/community.
Website Update
Notice that Hive is now the reference of choice. This is not a major change, but it definitely emphasizes the change in focus (and dare I say trust). I did a quick search of 'steem' on the Splinterlands home page and that returned nada, zilch, nothing. Search for 'hive' and you will see the two references below.
Login Change
This change is a bit easier to see. This one brought a smile to my face, because of its simplicity. Now when you log into Splinterlands, you will use the Hive Keychain (black/red), instead of the Steem Keychain.
Hive Keychain - New | Steem Keychain -Old |
---|---|
If you are a Splinterlands player but do not/will not post on Hive, then there will be some setup required to continue playing Splinterlands.
Users can still log in to Splinterlands with their Password or Private Posting Key, but this is considered a less secure option.
The Change I Reached Out About
I had just finished watching @aggroed's video entitled State Of Splinterlands on YouTube, and since @aggroed said he lived on Discord I reached out to him directly about a question I had. Can Steem still be used to make purchases?
@aggroed quickly replied to my concern. Thank you, sir! The quick response is that Steem and Hive are both still supported for buying Credits (which can be used to make purchases). I had never bought credits before so I was not familiar with the process. It is simple enough, but that was not how I made purchases.
Since the update, it is important to note that a user cannot directly buy individual cards with either Hive or Steem (my previous, preferred purchasing method).
If a user wants to buy credits with Steem, that user will need to log in using the Steem Keychain. Any purchases of credits with Hive will require the Hive Keychain.
Final Thoughts
I am excited about where things are moving with Splinterlands and look forward to playing/earning/and investing more in this platform.
I do hope that Splinterlands (now built on Hive) can reach the masses.
I want to hear from you.
Is there anything that I missed?
