Splinterlands-Reaches-100k-Daily.jpg

So, I finally gave in to the craze of Splinterlands and paid 10 or 11 HBD to buy my first pack. At least I think that I bought a pack. I am Newbie McNewberson the 3rd and haven't a clue how to play the game. For a long time now, I've watched as friends like @niallon11 and @rynow and others gave posted about their exploits. I would always shrug and think I missed the boat with this one, but this morning I said Feck it, why not jump on board and see what it's all about, so here I am.

Fomo

I heard of Splinterlands ages ago and have always just kind of ignored it to be honest. I didn't really have time to play and I stopped playing games in my twenties, as I have too many other things going on. Fast forward to November 2021 and the FOMO is real. In fact, I've already missed the meteoric rise, but who knows maybe there will be another one.

Questions

question-mark-1872665__340.webp

  1. I paid 10HDB to join the game. Do I now own some cards? What are they worth?

  2. Realistically do I need to spend more money to get set up?

  3. Can people recommend any good posts or videos to explain what's what for complete newbies? (I've already looked at the how to on the website)

  4. How do I earn SPT tokens and what's the best way to earn more. I heard there were airdrops. What do I need to do to qualify for them?

  5. Is the game child friendly or are there any risks?

Gave it a go

I did give a few battles a go, by randomly picking cards and yep, you guessed it, I got my ass handed to me three times! Does it affect your cards or account if you keep losing and if you win, what do you get?

Lots and lots of questions and so much to learn, but I'm happy to have at least taken the first step towards Splinterlands Superstardom!!

That's it from me. Thanks for stopping by

hey @ablaza, welcome Splinterlands board! I will try to answer your Qs:

  1. I paid 10HDB to join the game. Do I now own some cards? What are they worth?
Once you bough summoner spellbook, you have deck of "ghost cards" - you do not own them but you can use them in matches to start earning rewards, fulfill quests etc.

  2. Realistically do I need to spend more money to get set up?
I would say yes, overall in my opinion Splinterlands is definitely not free to play game, also I reckon it's pay-to-win also.

  3. Can people recommend any good posts or videos to explain what's what for complete newbies? (I've already looked at the how to on the website)
@Bulldog1205 has decent YT channel with a lot of tutorials, also for complete newbies :)

  4. How do I earn SPT tokens and what's the best way to earn more. I heard there were airdrops. What do I need to do to qualify for them?
SPT is splintertalk token, currently there is SPS token airdrop. Basically, more SL assests you own, more SPS airdrop you have. In order to participate in aidrop, you need to own cards, booster packs, land plots or other assests. Full list is here:
    https://sps.splinterlands.com/airdrop

  5. Is the game child friendly or are there any risks?
Well, at the end of the day, it's all about battling and PVP. There is no gore or strict violence, I would rather say it's more strategic battle game. But still a battle.

Have fun with Splinterlands!

You can check the current value of your Splinterlands card collection on the Discord server of Splinterlands. Mine is currently worth $846.15 USD.

If you do not use Discord, then you can also check it on PeakMonsters.

Realistically do I need to spend more money to get set up?

I started playing Splinterlands (Steem Monsters) on 2018.12.30. I also paid $10 USD in Steem for the Beta starter set. I played successfully without little to no further investment. Nowadays the situation could be different, but nowadays it is better to rent the cards than buy them, because nowadays they are very expensive to buy. This was very different, when I started playing it. You could have bought many of the cards for a few cents in 2018.

How do I earn SPT tokens and what's the best way to earn more. I heard there were airdrops. What do I need to do to qualify for them?

One way is to use the #spt tag on your posts. Another (passive) is to delegate SPT to @monster-curator. You will receive SPT daily.

Is the game child friendly or are there any risks?

Yes. It is child friendly. There is even an Android app to play the game. Anyone can play it.

Splinterlands is a fun, entertaining, enjoyable game. Nowadays it is one of my favorite games. Good luck and have fun.

I give you some !PIZZA.

Have a nice day. All the best. Greetings from Hungary.

That is just the starter pack. You don't own any cards yet but you can start battling.

Realistically do I need to spend more money to get set up?
I would put a little money into the game. For me i would rent for a little while until the chaos packs launch. It will be cheaper to buy a few when there are millions of new cards on the market.

Can people recommend any good posts or videos to explain what's what for complete newbies? (I've already looked at the how to on the website)
No but you should be able to search youtube. There are some users that post content for noobs.

How do I earn SPT tokens and what's the best way to earn more. I heard there were airdrops. What do I need to do to qualify for them?
SPT is just the tribe token for splintertalk.io Just tag spt and oneup when you post content to earn more. You get SPS airdrop every day based on your assets in the game. SPT are one of the assets taken into account.

Is the game child friendly or are there any risks?
No risk that i can see. As long as the stick to the game and away from discord where there is adult content and scams for keys. The discord would be good for noobs though to see good posts and see what is happening.

Never too late to join.

You might have missed the first big moon but the game is only starting. It's worth buying a good summoner or two and focusing on cards that match their splinter or neutral ones. It doesn't take much to get to silver level once you figure out the game and you can rent strong enough cards to do that for about a dollar a day if your smart with it.
Once your in silver you can start earning reward chests which can hold valuable cards to hold or sell.
I would sell the most valuable and use them to buy more cards for fighting.
