A lick of paint
We had a nice table and chairs outside our previous home and my friend Dave always liked them. Dave helped us a lot with our move back West and wouldn't accept any money, so I gave him the furniture before we left and I also bought him a really good bottle of top shelf whiskey. They both went down well. We figured that we'd buy another setbin Galway, but between the jigs and the reels and all of the other things we have going on, we never got around to it. Luckily though the couple who sold us their house had a table and chairs. They had seen plenty of weather, but they were still solid.
I was in the shed a couple of weeks ago and was tidying a few bits up and I happened upon a tin of Sadolin. This is expensive stuff and is used on boats to keep the waterproof, so for wooden fences or furniture, I'd always recommend spending the extra few bob and buying Sadolin. If you're going to paint something to preserve it, you may as well use the best paint.
It just so happened that the colour of the leftover paint was perfect for the table and chairs, well that's my opinion anyway, you'll see some photos further down and you can make your own decision. Allium Green was the colour and it is a sage green type of colour.
Getting set up
The beauty of this type of outdoor painting is that you are out in the sunshine, because you obviously won't paint if it's raining and also you have very little prep to do. If it was inside painting, I'd be spending an hour masking taping skirting boards and door frames, putting down dust sheets and emptying the room, but for this outside job, all I needed was one dust sheet and the chairs themselves weighed it down, easy peasy lemon squeezey 🍋 🎨
Here's one I made earlier
Those chefs on the telly always say "here's one I made earlier", wel that was kind of the same thing here with the painting job, I actually painted the table when I first found the paint a few weeks ago. I wasn't sure if I'd have enough left for the chairs, but the table turned out peachy, as you'll see below.
Beach Theme
There's a bit of a coastal or beach vibe going on as you can see, herself picked up this lighthouse which I must say I like and I found these lovely perfectly rounded stones on our recent visit to the beach.
I love how rounded they have become from the erosion and deposition along the Galway coast at an Spidéal.
They've just finished drying, well almost and must say I'm delighted with how they turned out.
I've done a tonne of DIY on our new house since we bought it last July, I wonder what will be next on my list?
