Picture a day - urban scavenger

Noticed this scene today on a street.. Well, this is not a scavenger, it is a janitor, street cleaner. I just could not stop myself from joking. 'Omnia Mea mecum porto', as they said in Rome. Why does he carry a cardboard? Cause this person definitely scavenging it from the waste, and sells this wasted paper for some silly money. A lot of wasted cardboard saved eventually makes a sufficient extra to his low salary. I see same scenes on the streets from time to time, but never lucky enough to catch it, i.e. having my camera holstered or no camera at all... this time I was more or less quick enough to make two takes.

ps. added a pinch of x-processing to the image, to boost the poor lighting of the capture. How do you like the result?

location: St.Petersburg, Russia October 2020 natural lighting

Hello dear friend @qwerrie good afternoon
Excellent shot of the day, this image has a lot of meaning.

I tell you, you would be surprised by the money that is made selling cardboard.

I was born in a humble family, my mother had separated from my father leaving us alone, as the money was not enough I began to gather cardboard, bone, iron from the garbage, you would be surprised to know that in the month, almost the same salary as my mother .

I hope I did not bore you with this story, I appreciate that you showed us the image of the day

Have a wonderful night

I tell you, you would be surprised by the money that is made selling cardboard.

haha. so, tell me?

and it is you will be surprised when I tell you how much wasted paper I sold in two (or maybe 2,5) last years. well, I worked at a printing house, and wasnt capturing the paper at the trash sites :P now do not work there anymore... thank you for the feedback, I extremely happy you enjoyed this capture! - !BEER and !ENGAGE 25 for you, my friend.

Some years ago I worked in a grocery store, there I used to collect all the replacement cardboard, I don't know there, but here you make a lot of money with these things, dear friend

yes, yes! we both understand this stuff. and it is good for ecology, right? I was doing it not for the money, well, not totally for the rewarding. my input into solving of eco issues, my input in cleaning the planet Earth. I still have faith, we all should put in the efforts, even little takes do count in.

ps. when you are a teenager or even less, nowdays there are different ways to raise money, but 30-40 years before there were not many, indeed! iron, bone... I was selling empty glass bottles when I was ten, and was getting some silly money - but didnt became a rich man, haha

I know many people who have led a good life with the garbage of others, recently I was getting the enormous amount of money that corporations that are dedicated to collecting garbage make, another very big business is the collection of plastic

Without going any further, at present I buy pallets and palest that are destined for the trash and with that I am building rustic furniture, to be honest, it helps me a lot in the economy
Thank you very much dear friend @qwerrie for having posted this image that allowed all this comment

Have an excellent day

They are on a long journey, the chair is for sit down rests along the way.

a good interpretation version!
well, I know the truth but would like appreciate such a great fantasy of interpretation, thanks a lot! I wish @blacklux would check it too, and tell me what she thinks of it :P you both have such a cool fantazy, and irrationally fresh sight!

Pfrrrrrrrrrr! Please @sketch.and.jam, we all know that chair is to keep people 6' away cause of covid! Also it helps to keep away lions but you need a whip for that! hahahah

ha ha ha!!

a good point, Luz.
i used a chair (no joking!) for exactly same purpose just a week ago. it was no fun, a desperate deal :/
oh, and I have an idea of something better than a chair: a little sneezing may work too, to keep folks at a distance... no? :=)

The other day an old woman crashed into me... literally! I was hysterical! Some people doesn't understand the concept of personal space or even the 6' distance... I always bath myself in alcohol hahahaha

things a bit easier for me, when I use bicycle. but I cant do that all of the time..
