Hedeki Matsuyama at the Open Championship 2025

Hedeki

I was lucky enough to land two tickets for the Open Championship this year in Portrush. One for the Saturday and one for the Sunday.

It's not too often Ireland hosts one of golf's major championships. In fact this was only the third time ever, so I was always going to do my best to get here. I wasn't around in 1951, but have now attended the last two on Irish soil and will continue to each time it returns to Irish shores.

Four of us travelled up and stayed in Belfast for three nights and got the train to Portrush each day for the golf.

Japan's Hedeki Matsuyama was a golfer we followed around for a few holes.

This was a good spot to watch the 7th hole and take a rest from walking.

Here we see Hedeki sizing up his putt with meticulous precision.

Golf, more than most sports gives you excellent access to the players. If you get green side early enough, you can get right up beside the best players in the world.

If you're into golf at all, I'd highly recommend the Open Championship. We had an absolute ball.

Speaking off balls, I brought these ones home as souvenirs, and some ball markers and a hat too.

This mural was painted onto the side of one of the houses in Portrush, which was also pretty cool.

Here's some more photos from my super memorable trip to Portrush to watch the very best in golf ply their trade.

It was truly a magical experience that I'll never forget as long as I live.
