That's how I ended up here... I just haven't had time for long form posts. Now, I don't have time because I spend so much time on Snaps!
Lol, no! I still need time to put AI to work to build up projects, and it is often a very skilled "employee" but one that needs constant supervision or it messes up constantly.
That doesn't sound like a very skilled employee, that sounds like an employee with very limited skills.
For humans, I think that's correct. AI still lacks vision. But it is skilled. Much better programmer than most programmers when it comes to heavy lifting and knowing various things a human programmer would need lots of time to research.
That’s quite true! Having been a dev all of my days, I know what you mean. Welcome to Snaps by the way.
Thanks! Yeah, hard to miss this as a dev, when you start using it and see how much it improves productivity.
Yes, but if it needs constant supervision, how useful are those skills? If it were a human programmer that needed so much interference, would you have the patience for them, or fire them and try to find a better one?
Well, it depends. They are better programmers than me and most programmers in the world when it comes to heavy-lifting. They produce code practically instantly. I don't need to know the details (unless I want to), I need to guide it on the path. Most other programmers in its stead would take longer to do the job, despite having a better sense of following the direction and long term development (but AIs are growing on that side very quickly). There is one limitation: I don't give it access to my computer. Had it had access to files and the ability to troubleshoot the results of its code and test it against real data as it progresses, it would probably do better, with less interventions from my side. I also don't use the latest model because it's not free, and I have my reasons not to pay for it (mainly, in my opinion, they become addictive, and the free models have limits that are actually good for us to take long breaks from AI and switch to something else).
It might be best that you don't give it access to your computer. There are a lot of stories out there about AI accidentally deleting entire drive partitions while trying to 'clean up' superfluous files.
I would only give it access if I managed to buy another laptop and isolate it and its potential damage there. There are also privacy concerns I have.
