The Prayers of Silent Hearts

in Ladies of Hive20 hours ago

Yesterday evening, I was sitting on the rooftop. The weather felt strange — neither completely cool nor warm. In the distance, the sound of the call to prayer could be heard, while children were playing in the street below. At that moment, my eyes stopped on an elderly woman sitting outside the house across from ours. She was quietly staring at the sky. No phone in her hand, no one sitting beside her, no conversation — yet there was a silence on her face that seemed full of untold stories.
For some reason, watching her made me realize that people do not always express their pain with words. Some wounds become so deep that even language fails to explain them. From the outside, everything may look normal, but inside the heart, an entirely different world is struggling.
All of us go through moments in life when the heart wants to speak, but the tongue chooses silence. Sometimes people change, sometimes circumstances do. And sometimes a person becomes so emotionally tired that they stop explaining themselves altogether. They choose silence instead. Others think they no longer care, but in reality, the people who speak the least are often carrying the heaviest pain.
I feel that nowadays almost everyone is silently exhausted. Some are worried about earning a living, some are hurt by relationships, and others are anxious about their future. On social media, everyone appears happy and smiling, but reality is often very different. Every person is fighting a private battle that no one else can truly see.
Sometimes people prefer talking to God instead of talking to others. There are feelings that human beings cannot fully understand. In those moments, prayer becomes the only comfort. A prayer that rises less from the lips and more from the heart.
I remember there was a time when I used to explain everything to everyone. If someone became upset, I would try to make things right. If someone drifted away, I would try to hold them back. But with time, life slowly taught me that not every relationship can be saved by force. Some people enter our lives only to leave behind a lesson.
Then comes a stage where a person learns the meaning of silence. They speak less, complain less, and begin sharing most of their feelings only with God. And perhaps there is a strange kind of peace hidden inside that silence. Because when hope from the world fades, the connection with God often grows stronger.
There is something deeply emotional about prayers made late at night. When everyone else is asleep and a person quietly speaks to their Creator in loneliness. There is no pretending there, no performance — only a heart carrying its hidden pain. And maybe those are the moments when a person finally feels a little lighter inside.
I have also realized that silent people are not emotionless. They simply do not tell everyone everything. They understand that some wounds can only be healed by time and prayer.
Life may never become completely easy, but people continue living because of hope — the hope that one day things will get better. And perhaps that hope is what keeps people from breaking apart. Sometimes it appears as a prayer, sometimes as patience, and sometimes as a quiet smile.
If the heart is hurting, it is not always necessary to tell the whole world. Some feelings become more beautiful when they travel silently to God.
