That's why you can never judge others until you know the reason behind what appears to you their "strange" behavior. And their behavior was appropriate for the good news they received. I knew a couple once who did not get tested knowing it could be a possibility to pass on a genetic trait. Sometimes it's best to have all the facts before proceeding. Unless you have the resources to handle specialized medical care indefinitely. It's a hard issue to navigate on moral and ethical levels.
