This is a comment I wrote on another Social Media site in response to this chart to explain why the Dollar is losing its value. I did not get into the stimulus packages because they are only a symptom of the economic collapse brought to the US by their lockdowns.

Germany did not destroy its economy, so of course the Euro is killing the US-Dollar (and the British Pound).
The lockdown here was short (~4 weeks) and did mostly affect small retailers and restaurants (which of course are still struggling) but most offices and factories continued their work in one way or the other. Also the schools were opened back up late April/early May and restaurants are also open everywhere (with the strange ritual that you have to wear a mask from the door to the table). Masks are mandatory in stores and I'm of course not a fan of this but mandatory masks are also not hurting the economy that much.
The smaller wealthy countries in the EU like the Netherlands, Austria, Denmark and Finland were mostly even faster in reopening the economy while Sweden, which is also wealthy, never had a lockdown to begin with.
Why did Germany maneuver this crisis that much better? On the one hand Germany did better in protecting the vulnerable in the beginning instead of sending the infected back into the nursing homes. Because of this the daily death rate went significantly down in April. This allowed the politicians to reopen without getting lynched by the panicked mob.
And then of course the most important thing: The next election is in September 2021 and the governing parties know that they can't win reelection if they destroy the economy completely. American politicians can try to fool the electorate for half a year but I don't believe that this would be possible for 10 additional months.

Deutschland hat seine Wirtschaft nicht zerstört, also zerfistet der Euro natürlich gerade den US-Dollar (und das britische Pfund).
Der Lockdown hier war kurz (~4 Wochen) und betraf vor allem kleine Einzelhändler und Restaurants (die natürlich immer noch zu kämpfen haben), aber die meisten Büros und Fabriken setzten ihre Arbeit auf die eine oder andere Weise fort. Auch die Schulen wurden Ende April/Anfang Mai wieder geöffnet, und auch Restaurants haben überall geöffnet (mit dem seltsamen Ritual, dass man von der Tür bis zum Tisch eine Maske tragen muss). Masken sind in den Geschäften vorgeschrieben, und ich bin natürlich kein Fan davon, aber vorgeschriebene Masken schaden der Wirtschaft auch nicht so sehr.
Die kleineren wohlhabenden Länder in der EU wie die Niederlande, Österreich, Dänemark und Finnland waren meist sogar noch schneller bei der Wiedereröffnung der Wirtschaft, während Schweden, das ebenfalls wohlhabend ist, von Anfang an keinen Lockdown hatte.
Warum hat Deutschland diese Krise so viel besser manövriert? Einerseits hat Deutschland anfangs die Gefährdeten besser geschützt, anstatt die Infizierten zurück in die Pflegeheime zu schicken. Aus diesem Grund ging die tägliche Todesrate im April deutlich zurück. Dies ermöglichte es den Politikern, wieder zu öffnen, ohne von einem in Panik geratenen Mob gelyncht zu werden.
Und dann natürlich das Wichtigste: Die nächste Bundestagswahl findet im September 2021 statt, und die Regierungsparteien wissen, dass sie die Wiederwahl nicht gewinnen können, wenn sie die Wirtschaft völlig zerstören. Amerikanische Politiker können versuchen, die Wähler ein halbes Jahr lang zu täuschen, aber ich glaube nicht, dass dies für weitere 10 Monate möglich wäre.
