It's really great when mama feels like eating something. Earlier today, mama had a craving for some custard cake. I don't know exactly what triggered it. It could be some videos or photos she saw online.
When kuya Joseph came home from work, she requested him to buy the cake from Cardinal Bakeshop which is only a few minutes away from our place. We decided to have some cake during our tea time. :)
Custard cake is a kind of Filipino cake which has a chiffon cake base and topped with something similar to leche flan. It's caramel-y with brown sugar syrup.
As you can see in the pictures above, the upper part of the cake has a thin layer of creme caramel and brown sugar syrup. The brown sugar syrup was somehow absorbed by the sides of the cake so it's also sweeter. However, the sliced version looks like this ↡ ↡ ↡
The brown sugar syrup doesnt seep through the whole chiffon cake, so it balances its sweetness. It isn't too sweet, so you can keep eating it.
As for the chiffon part, it's really fluffy and feels really soft in your mouth. Despite its fluffyness, it's kind of full, so your stomach feels happy, too! :)
I paired my slice of custard cake with black tea with mint. If you saw my post several days back, I showed some tea we ordered online. We have chamomile, jasmine, green tea and black tea.
So far, black tea with mint is my favorite. It's really soothing. I was really sick last week, so drinking tea really helped as well. It was relaxing and comforting. I'm still not fully well, but I'm getting there. :) Sick or not, I can enjoy sipping some delicious tea. ♡♡♡
That's it for tonight. I hope you enjoyed this post my fellow foodies! ✩
