Do you enjoy bread as much as I do? I LOVE IT!!!!
I started making my own bread recently as part of wanting to do more homesteading and bread was a natural food group for me to get started with.
This whole wheat bread will come out steaming fresh and packed with that fresh bread aroma that will fill your house.
This recipe is easy to do, the hardest part is going to be kneading the dough so if you have a electronic mixer dough hook I highly recommend using it.
Let's get cooking!
Guide
- Prep Time: 2 hours 45 minutes
- Cooking Time: 25 minutes
- Yield: 1 Loaf
- Ready In 3 hours 10 minutes
Ingredients
- 1 cup war water
- 2 tablespoons of honey or maple syrup
- 2 3/4 teaspoon yeast
- 1/4 cup of vegetable oil
- 3 cups of all-purpose flour, bread flour or wheat flour
- 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
Instructions
Heat cup of water in microwave for about 30 seconds until warm. Stir in honey.
Add yeast and stir just a bit. Let sit for 10 minutes allowing the yeast to bloom.Pour mixture into mixer and add vegetable oil, flour one cup at a time, salt using your dough hook. You can mix by hand and knead the dough by hand but it is a lot so be prepared!
Mix for a few minutes at a low speed. Dough will become balled together on the hook and no longer stick to the sides. If dough is crumbly and not sticking together add in 1 teaspoon of water at a time. Continue to knead for 3 minutes an a non-sticky dough ball has formed.
Roll into a ball and place in a lightly greased bowl. Cover the bowl with a kitchen towel and place in a warm, draft-free area. Allow the dough to rise for one and a half hours until it has doubled in size.
Punch dough down and shape into a oval placing it in a greased loaf pan seam side down
Allow the dough to rise again for about a hour until doubled again.
Preheat over to 350F and bake for about 25-30 minutes
