Long Term Food Storage With Mylar Bags!

Mylar bags are a popular choice for long-term food storage because they are durable, airtight, and protect food from light, moisture, and pests. These bags are made of a material called polyester, which is a strong, heat-sealable plastic that can be used to package a variety of food items.

The main benefits of using Mylar bags for food storage is that they are completely sealed, keeping out any air or moisture that could spoil the food. This makes them ideal for storing items like dried beans, rice, and other grains that can last for several years when properly stored. They also protect food from pests, such as insects and rodents, which can be a problem in traditional food storage methods like cardboard boxes or plastic containers.

When using Mylar bags for food storage, it's important to properly prepare the food and the bags. Food should be clean and dry, and any excess air should be removed from the bags before sealing. A vacuum sealer is a great tool for this, as it removes all the air and creates a tight seal on the bag.

Another important factor to consider when using Mylar bags for food storage is the size of the bags. They are available in a variety of sizes, from small 1-gallon bags to larger 5-gallon bags, so you can choose the size that best fits your needs. It's also a good idea to label the bags with the contents and the date they were stored, so you can keep track of how long the food has been stored.

I just saw a story about you in the Metro paper yesterday and now I find out you are on Hive. That's cool. I'm not so big on food storage, but at least my chickens are laying again after a bit of a break. They are a few years old now and one of them struggles to get around.

Hi Steeve! Such a cool experience and I'm working towards many more happening!
Do you have plans to have new chicks so they produce more eggs for you?

We may do at some point. This is our second lot. Planning to move the run this year.

There's a fair few homesteaders on Hive. I hope you can bring in more.

Hey @gubbatv, here is a little bit of BEER from @steevc for you. Enjoy it!

Did you know that <a href='https://dcity.io/cityyou can use BEER at dCity game to buy cards to rule the world.

Those egg noodles are great! Especially with a teriyaki chicken/veggie stir fry. Prepper-envy over here, you're set up nice!

You've inspired me to order a vacuum sealer. We lose so much food because ants get into the boxes. I was thinking of bags for freezing stuff. But, it didn't occur to me to use them for dry goods.
