Breakfast
If they were handing out prizes for the healthiest breakfast, this one wouldn't be in the running. I tell you one thing though, it was damn tasty. The only thing it was missing was some rashers aka bacon, but in this restaurant called the Donkey Shed they only serve traditional bacon with breakfast. I had it before and it's basically hairy bacon, which was very off putting and not something I wanted to venture again, so I asked for extra sausage instead, which worked out well.
It was a long time since we'd eaten at the donkey shed which is based in Ashbourne in County Meath, a town we used to live until we relocated back to Galway three years ago.
I was not the only one going for the unhealthy option either, as my wife and kids both got French toast with all sorts of tasty side. Not my cup of tea for breakfast to be honest, more like a dessert, but each to their own.
The first one was one of the kids, with chocolate spread and marshmallows.
The second one is doused in maple syrup and peaches. As I say not my idea of breakfast! Although my phone clearly disagrees, as the emoji prompt I get when I type breakfast is this one 🥞
An Auld Mug of Tae
No meal is complete in Ireland without an Auld Mug of Tae (spelt wrong on purpose and pronounced Taay) Indeed no occasion is complete without Tea either. Wedding or funeral, meeting or visit to a neighbour, Tea is an ever present.
To not drink tea or coffee in Ireland would be met with some level of suspicion I think!
I liked the little milk urn that they used for the milk at the Donkey Shed too.
Why do they call it the Donkey Shed I hear you ask? For the resident donkeys of course.
The Goat Shed would not quite have the same ring to it...
The Henhouse. Hmmmm the Henhouse might actually work...
Speaking of hens I'll leave you with one more photo of my tasty breakfast, complete with tasty locally produced eggs.
Peace out.
