in list4 years ago

I agree with discipline and justice but I don't necessarily agree w/revenge

& it's not something I am interested in -> I don't enjoy what a resentful or vindictive spirit me

If revenge is taken too far or doesn't have an endpoint revenge is bad. If all revenge is vindictive or resentful than by default wouldn't the criminal justice system be wrong? Even without the death penalty when someone acts out against society there is a system that confines that person against their will in a limited area for a period of time. Technically if I own a store and someone shoplifts than jail is revenge against the shoplifter who wronged me. There are rules against cruel and unusual punishment and a maximum amount of time someone can be held for a crime. Even after a criminal does their time and is released that person still has a criminal record that can affect them in areas of their life such as employment. That would seem to be a resentful thing to do but as society we have decided that is proper.
