The 1st test of the series was played between India vs Newzealand from Thursday, Nov 25, 2021 to Monday, Nov 29, 2021 at Green Park, Kanpur. The match ended in a draw and the two match series stands at 0-0. The 2nd match will be the series decider.

1st Innings:

India won the toss and decided to bat first. Striker Mayank Agarwal was dismissed for only 13 runs by Jamieson. Then Pujara came out and made 61 runs partnership with Shubman Gill. Again Jamieson took the 2nd wicket and dismissed Gill. Gill scored 52 runs in 93 balls including 5 fours and a six. Then Pujara gone for 26 runs and Rahane 35 runs. On fifth wicket Shreyas Iyer and Ravindra Jadeja made 121 runs partnership. Jadeja scored 50 runs including 6 fours. Iyer made his maiden test century. He scored 105 runs including 13 fours and 2 sixes. Aswin scored 38 runs and finally team India scored total 345 runs by 10 wickets.


Kiwi bowlers performed really well especially kiwi pacers. Tim Southee picked up 5 wickets only for 69 runs in 27.4 overs including 6 maiden overs. Pacer Jamieson picked up 3 wickets and Ajaz Patel 2 wickets.


In reply Newzealand scored total 296 runs by 10 wickets. Newzealand had a wonderful start. Tom Latham and Will Young made 151 runs opening partnership. Latham scored 95 runs in 282 balls including 10 fours. Young scored 89 runs in 214 balls including 15 fours. But after breaking their partnership there was a big collapse in kiwi family. One by one came and gone without playing a responsible innings.


As always Indian spinners showed their strength in their condition though kiwi pacers did well in the subcontinent condition. Axar Patel picked up 5 wickets only for 62 runs in 34 overs. Ashwin picked up 3 wickets, Jadeja and Umesh each took 1 wicket.

2nd Innings:

In 2nd innings India lost their top orders early. India lost total 5 wickets for scoring only 51 runs. In 6th wicket partnership Iyer and Ashwin made 52 runs partnership. Ashwin has gone for 32 runs. Then Wriddhiman Saha came out and made another 64 runs partnership with Iyer. Iyer gone for 65 runs including 8 fours and a six. Saha remained unbeaten and scored 61 runs including 4 fours and a six. Axar also remained unbeaten for scoring 28 runs. India declared for 234/7.


Again kiwi pacers performed well. Tim Southee and Jamieson each tookn3 wickets and Ajaz Patel 1 wicket.


Will Young was dismissed early for only 3 runs by Ashwin. Then Kane Williamson came out and made 76 runs partnership with Tom Latham. Williamson dismissed for 36 runs by Umesh. Then Latham was dismissed by Aswin. Latham scored 52 runs including 3 fours. After Latham's wickets again there was a big collapse in kiwi family. Newzealand lost total 9 wickets for 155 runs. But blackcaps tail enders Rachin Ravindra and Ajaz Patel saved the match with just one wicket in hand. India failed to all out Newzealand.


In 2nd innings against Indian spinners showed their magic. Ravindra Jadeja picked up 4 wickets for only 40 runs in 28 overs. Ashwin picked up 3 wickets, Axar and Umesh each took 1 wicket. Shreyas Iyer was player of the match.
