Trying to get some fitness back.

Life isn't easy.

Out of the goodness of my heart I booked a lovely trip for my girfriend as a birthday present. We had a baby just a few weeks ago so I picked a fancy hotel up in Westport which is meant to be a great town for a weekend away.

We had tried to do this twice already but both were hit by the COVID curse. Hotels closed and restrictions on travel so it was an easy win to book a fancy hotel again this time.

Unfortunatly my girlfriend, like all girlfriends is crazy.

Instead of just going to a luxurious hotel and enjoying the food and drink she has it in her head to hike Croagh Patrick while we are there. She has wanted to do it for the past few years so there is no getting away from it really.

Now I like the outdoors myself but I have to say that I took advantage of her pregnancy to get a bit too lazy. It was winter and i had nobody to drag me out of the house so as they say around these parts.

I wintered well.

That means staying in from the cold and eating enough.

Winter's over!!!

That means it's time to get back outside and time to start doing some excercise again.

She is good at booking classes and is determined to get back to fitness but I am not one for commiting to anything like that so the motivation wasn't there.

Luckily my old football game started up again last week and gave me the perfect opportunity to get playing.

It wasn't pretty.

I had played a few games of golf this month but nothing to an hour of non-stop excercise with people who could actually run.

Week one almost killed me. Myself and my old work buddy were there at the end and alarms were ringing on our smart watches.

If your heart rate tops out over 150 your legally dead arent you?

Apperantly not.

We did week one and then came back for even more punishment a week later.

In the meantime i had managed two games of golf and a few walks with the missus now that she is on a mission again.

I could feel the difference already.

One week of doing things and your body gains a huge amount of fitness. It's a long way from where i want or need to be but getting back to excercising feels good and is good.

The winter was nice but it's even better to get up and moving again.

It won't take long to hit a reasonable level of fitness and we'll both be well ready to take on Croagh Patrick in June. then we can relax and enjoy the rest of the weekend with the food and drinks that we are looking forward to.

This was kind of motivational :D
I think the most important thing here is to stay consistent and celebrate every single win.

🤣 u got one of those crazy want to go outside and do stuff gf's, huh?

I would say I am in winter mode, but all year round.. i spend pretty much all day at my PC, only workout twice a week now (some pushups and stuff) and the weekly outing maybe (go sit in NOT my house/room) :P

I am so glad Target delivers tho..

Todo inicio en los deportes es duro, a mí me pasó recientemente

Winter is about to start here in Australia. Having said that, our temps during the day would hit the low teens so it isn't too bad here to keep active

Congrats on the new baby! Great reading you both back chasing fitness! Good luck and post more!

Exercises are always a great way to build our bodies. It is important that we find the motivation to exercise often.

This is an impactful there.
Exercises can never underestimated.

Ha ha, I hear you on the soccer 5 a sides, and for me playing on the night is grand and I run around thinking I am still in my twenties, darting runs, mazzy runs and I leave with a big smiley head having enjoyed the run out, but it's the next day that I feel, as I get out of bed making the old man noises and hobble towards the shower. It's like that for a day or two and then I recover and do it all again the following week and it's worth it for the 60 minutes of joy and I find it a good release valve from work stresses etc. The only downer is when I get a proper knock or injury and then can't play golf, now that really gets me, as golf is my competitive sport these days, and the soccer is just for fun. I tee it up on Sunday mornings in comps, so missing some of those due to soccer injuries means I usually hang up the boots when the golf season comes back properly in April.

As for Croagh Patrick, you'll love it man, especially if it is a clear day, the views on the way up and from the summit out over Clew Bay are a sight to behold.
