RE: Becoming a Gunner in 1980s Ireland

in Sports Talk Social2 years ago

When I was 19 years old I moved in with my English girlfriend into the spare room of her parent's council flat in a tough part of south London. Her father, Jim, looked me up and down and asked me who my team was. Being Australian I didn't "have a team" so I floundered for for an answer. He cut me off and said "if you want to live in this house son you're a Man United supporter, are we clear?" Still a fan 30 years on - figured I have no choice - Jim has passed away now and I make sure I watch as many Manu U games as I can every season.

Ah man, I love that story about Jim, that's really special and I can see why you still support them man, fair play.

Having said that I hope Brighton beat them tonight, for the Gunners sake! Sorry Jim! Joking aside though I hope Jim is resting in peace upstairs 🙏
