Seniors who consume more than two standard portions of mushrooms weekly may have 50 percent reduced odds of having mild cognitive impairment (MCI), according to a new study.
You may wonder what a portion really mean. According to Researchers, they defined a portion to be three quarters of a cup of cooked mushrooms having an average weight of about 150 grams. Then Two portions would likely be an equivalent to approximately half a plate. Even though the portion sizes might act as a guideline, it is also said by the researchers that even mushrooms of small portion a week may still be beneficial and sufficuent to reduce chances of MCI.
This correlation is surprising and encouraging. It seems that a commonly available single ingredient could have a dramatic effect on cognitive decline,” says lead author Feng Lei, assistant professor from National University of Singapore Psychological Medicine.
